JD you can’t ask for better performance from any bullet. Great expansion, 2/3 weight retention, and the core/jacket is intact. The 150 gr BT is tougher than you think. I recovered this one from jug #5. MV 2740 fps.

Ha. Old powder for sure, but still a good one in numerous applications. I make sure I keep a full can on the shelf. Probably at one time was one of the most widely used powders, I'd guess Varget and the 4350's are more used today. I do like it with 150's in a 30-06.IMR 4064 , they still make it yet. Looks like you’re on the right track.
That’s about my rule as well, unless it’s a ball powder. Then I’ll try a magnum primer to see if it changes much on group size.As a rule, I don't use Magnum primers until charge weights are 60+ grains of powder.

No, I checked the barrel between shots. I didn't have this with Varget, just lower velocity.Barrel heat or????
That should be a great load--accuracy and velocity! What more could you want?I'm going to verify this load and call it a wrap.
150 gr BT 46.3 grs IMR4064 for an average MV 2863 ES 23 SD 11. One click West on the dial it's pretty much good to go. Field testing will start in July.

I’ve always loved imr 4064, it’s one of the more stable old school imr powders. It’s always shot well and with good speed for me in 308 winThank you fellas. The speed and accuracy are more than adaquet for a woods rifle. Maybe at some point I'll get some 165 gr BT's and I ll work up a load but for now, I believe it good to go. I'm going to verify this load and also shoot it at 400, 600 and 800 yards.

Jim,JD , I'm just curious , is the magazine long enough for the ammo to reach the lands , and feed from the magazine ?

That 150 load you have know is spot on , good speed and accuracy. Tough bullet and stable powder. My nephew shoots the 165 bt in his 308 win pump It’s a varget load. Relatively mild just cause of the age of the rifle. I think hes around 2700. Shoots very well. He’s killed a lot of black tail bucks with that old pump and he’s only 30. Most of the kills pass throughs with that bullet. Good expansion though. His grand father gave him the gun. He’s got a 300 wm also but he uses that pump 308 for everything accept elk. Anyways just wanted to say looks like a picture perfect 308 load. Great work!
Mike,What can be better than verification of a load in the field?![]()
