I am going to begin loading for the 308 win soon.
I have never worked with or shot this cartrige.
I have seen that the round is used in matches so I assume it has potential.
The primary use will be varmint and target.... So I guess I am looking for thoughts on a light, fast, and accurate combo.

For target shooting any of the match bullets should suit your needs. I have had great luck with the v-max and h335

Good info Pops, Thanks. I bought some 110 VMax awhile back for my .308 and have yet to work up any loads for it.

Proshop has the 155gr custom competitions on sale. Velocity would probably be closer to 2750 but that might prove to be a fun bullet as well.

Accurate loads for the good old .308 are almost ridiculously easy. There are many proven combinations, well known. Generations of competitors have used it for competition from 100 - 1000 yards, and sometimes beyond. Seldom the absolute best choice, it's a good general-purpose target cartridge, particularly for NRA highpower type shooting.

My setup is typical, and my loads are a standard load, widely used by many competition shooters. Proven accurate in many rifles:

Nosler 155 gr Comp bullet
Win case, prepped (Lapua is better, haven't tried Nosler cases)
Fed 210 match primers (CCI BR's are excellent too)
Hodgdon's Varget - work up to 46.5 grains, which is near max in my rifle.
The load averages 2980 fps from my 30" Krieger barrel, and 2850 fps from my 24" Krieger. It produces excellent long-range accuracy.

Barrel life is one of the strong points of the .308 Win. I've never had one die below 4000 rounds, and have had barrels last to 6000 rounds, still shooting decently at 600 yards.

Regards, Guy

I'll sure be glad when i get my Remington sa 700 with a heavy hart barrel with 1-12 twist from my gunsmith. I've got 500 bullets that range from 155gr. to 175gr. to play with, plus 6 pounds of different powder, and 6000 primers an 200 benchrest prepped Win an Nosler brass. Us 62 year olds like to play also.
