A 200 ET out of the dirt at 600 yards, about 1800 fps.

OK how did you manage this?

what was your load and muzzle velocity?

Well for starters I missed the gong I was shooting at. 74.5 gr RL-19 200 ET, Nosler brass, WLRM . Believe it was around 3000 FPS, and 600 yard fps was estimated using quickload.

Jake,

Thanks for posting the picture. Id say that 1800 fps impact velocity is the absolute low end for the E-Tip.

Yeah, that would be the minimum, but man, if you stick it into some bone, I imagine it would be okay! Looks like you would get an exit from that bullet and heck, it still has to be at least 40 caliber or so.

Jake, can you measure what mushroom you do have? Just for reference? Scotty

Jake, nothing wrong with that. It is like a 45 cal hole. I wouldn't worry about it drilling a hole straight through an elk! Scotty

only a few inches as it was more of a hillside than a dirt bank. The bullet entered the hillside and went in a few iches while angling up. It was found a half foot past the impact area laying on the top of the dirt. I find this happens alot when shooting into a hillside, and not a cut bank. I really wasn't doing this to test the bullet, I was trying to hit a 12" gong, and missed . If a guy was going to do this strictly for testing, there is better methods I'm sure.

Nevertheless, many of us have dug bullets out of a berm, tree or bank, probably because we are curious. There is a bit of scientist struggling to erupt in each gun crank.

Good Call Jim!

If it were me, I think I would want to keep that bullet on the shoulder at long range to ensure expansion.

Dirt is pretty tough stuff. I'm thinking even a shoulder blade @ 600 yds may not force open the bullet that much :?: :?: :?

Good find though, thanks for posting.
