Hey fella's,

I'm looking for some load data on the .338 Edge with the 300 grain AccuBond and 300 Grain Berger Hybrid. I'm focusing on H1000 and Retumbo from past experience, anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I've shot the 300 grain SMK running Shawn Carlock's 91 of H1000 with it. The bearing surface on the AccuBond is quite a bit larger though, I figure I'll drop its charge a few grains lower and work up. I'll start testing these bullets soon and keep you updated on what works.

The bearing surface is definitely longer. Dropping the load some would be a good idea to start. I shot some in my .338 Baer and kind of guessed on the loads based on .340 Weatherby data. They were warm but my throat is rather short (set up for 250's) so the bullets had to be seated way deep. My gun didn't like them very well and it loves everything 250grs and lighter that I've shot through it (it shoots most everything in the .2's and .3's). I might try some in my Edge when I get a chance to finish breaking it in. I only have 7 rounds through it. Having a 1 year old kid around and another on the way reduces the daddy play time a lot.

What powder are you thinking of using? I can give you some QL projections for the 300 grain Berger. For instance:

Cartridge : .338 Edge
Bullet : .338, 300, Berger Hybrid #33401
Useable Case Capaci: 90.126 grain H2O = 5.852 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.600 inch = 91.44 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch = 660.4 mm
Powder : Hodgdon Retumbo

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Idaho,

I imagine little ones would do that haha

DrMike,

I'd appreciate it if you could run that QL for me!! That would be great! I'm mainly looking at H1000 and Retumbo, I have a lot and it's shot well in the past. I'll probably seat them out to 3.650-3.750", (big gap I know, I haven't measured my throat with these bullets yet) and I've got a 30" barrel.

Thanks for your help fella's!

The Edge has the same case capacity as the 338 Lapua. I use 93 grains of Retumbo for my Ackley and it propel the 300 grain SMK at around 2850 fps. My barrel has 9.3 twist.

I would give Retumbo a try. I am getting 2742 fps with the 300 gr AB from my 338 RUM. Rifle is a stock M700 LSS.

Thanks guys!

Should get out this weekend or next to test some loads. Will keep you posted.

Jim, this QL is pretty cool. It has RL33 in it, so I ran it just to see how it stacks up to Retumbo.. Looks pretty good with just the computed ballistics.. Less pressure as well. I think it'll be a winner when it hits the shelves..
