OT & all, perhaps this is my fault. If so, my apologies.
OT - as I see it a question was asked about stepping up to a .338, instead of using a 6mm cartridge.
Most offered different ideas, and 6mmRemington/David offered his experience with kills on elk using a 6mm cartridge. I appreciated that viewpoint, and noted it.
This is only an alternative - offered I'm sure by David, as a low-recoil solution. Using a real good bullet, placing it well, and not having to move up to a different rifle. I saw nothing in David's post that denigrated your choice of the bigger cartridges. Nothing at all.
People can disagree, politely, and I think that's what we've done here. David has proof positive that the smaller cartridges can work, and work well, on elk. You have experience that makes you favor the bigger cartridges. Perhaps there's room for both viewpoints? No one's choice has been belittled in any way.
Heck, my only elk fell to a 7mm, so that's somewhere between the big & little cartridges. What the heck do I know, except that I shoot a lighter recoiling cartridge better, and that the 7mm was easily sufficient.
No offense intended by anyone as far as I can tell Old Trader. Your input is valued.
Regards, Guy
