That's sad, I really like my .338 Federal as a all around Washington brush rifle. What's the alternatives?

Oh ! I will still have my 338 Federal still  - just not sure what it will wear for a barrel :?:
I have the complete action - the stock - the new alum trigger gard-base plate unit ! :)

Cheers RJ :)

A suggestion might be a .358 Win. They are much more similar than different despite the .338 Fedral having a slight edge in penetration with lighter bullets. Just a thought?

Now your talking! The little 358 is pretty underated. Too bad to, as it really would answer alot of mail for a hard hitting rifle for larger than deer game. My 358 counted coup a few times this year, and the 225 PT barely had to breath hard on the little deer that were taken. It'll get out there too. Again, it isn't a "short range" rifle, unless short is 300 yards.

Gun writers sold the .358 as a "woods rifle." Some woods! It will indeed reach out and touch something.

Being a .338 adherent on this board is worse than being GREEN!

I'll get around to .338s one of these days... One of my .270s is going to become a .338-06, and I'm always on the lookout for an SS .340. Just might buy me a Model 70 .338 WinMag one of these days.

I had to look up "adherent"....

I like the 338's a bunch too, I like the 358's more though? No good reason for it though.
