Well I finally made it out to the range to start the break in on the new savage model 111 LRH in the 338 lapua mag. I don't have the reloading stuff yet so I bought a box of 285 grain hornady match bullets to start the break in. I am warning Scotty right now not to look at the pictures below, due to them being very persuasive.
All shots were at 100 yards from the very first shot.

This picture below shows the difference in size. left to right: 338 lapua 285 grain, 308 win 147 grain, 223 rem 55 grain NBT.

I shot a total of 6 rounds through the barrel while cleaning in between each round for break in.
The hole circled in red was the very first shot out of the barrel. The big hole behind the cover up paper circled with the green was the second out of the barrel (hit a metal plate behind the paper. the hole circled with yellow was the third shot out of the barrel. the big hole circled with the blue was shots four five and six. Yes you heard right shots 4, 5, 6 during break in process went into one big hole.

Here is a picture without the colors of the target shot.

Very nice buddy. You have yourself a shooter for sure!
You just gotta love the big 338's for their amazing accuracy and raw horse power.

The new 300 gr AB is going to be awesome in your 338 Lapua.

Those are some excellent results. What a confidence builder! Shortly, you'll be posting some pictures that will leave us all salivating for a Lapua!

That is fantastic!!! My guess is that you may have trouble beating that group with handloads. Keep us informed

I hope my handloads will do the same or better. because $90.00 for 20 shells will get pretty pricey.

There is a sale on nosler.com and shootersproshop.com for .338 Lapua brass right now!!! Sweet rifle I'm just afraid it would kick like a mule!!

Corbin, man, that group looks great! Son of a GUN! I know another member who will be a little antsy when he observes this target as well! Wow, what a shooter. Plus, the coolest part is that rifle is a screaming great deal for a guy wanting to get into a Lapua and not kill the bank account! Very awesome, please keep posting up your targets and progress with the rifle.

Also, how was the recoil from the rifle? Anything else to add that would be helpful to a hopeful Lapua shooter! Scotty

Scotty, I am extremely impressed with this rifle. I would rather shoot this 338 lapua instead of my 7mm wsm because the recoil of the 338 is around a 243 win with 55 grain NBT. The recoil of the rifle is more of a shove that a sharp kick. I will be putting the bullet data into my exbal today and try her out to 500 yards to see how she will do.

Wow, now that is very impressive! I am looking forward to seeing what it does out at range as well. It sounds like a great package. Thanks again for all the information on it. It sounds like a very good rifle and the brake works pretty awesome if it feels like a 243! Scotty

Savage built you one heck of a rifle! Nice....

That they did! I am really surprised at how well it shoots with only 6 rounds going down that tube. I can't wait until I get back in town and get to try it out to at least 500 yards. After I get the reloading stuff I will be posting pictures of targets shot at 1000 yards. I am going to give the 300 grain berger hybrid bullets and 300 grain SMK's a try.

I looked at the target and my credit card started to scream at me! I see a Savage 338 Lapua in my future.

Same here! That is a very awesome shooting rifle and the weight of it, well, it makes it pretty portable. Scotty

Can't wait to try those new AB out on some elk next year. with a BC of .720, it should be perfect

I'm looking forward to it. Can't wait to see your targets.

That 300gr AB is going to be a beast. I will step up when I see bullets available for it. Don't wanna get the rifle and not have proper Noslers for it.
