338 Lapua

Just started with the 338 Lapua Rem 700 TACT and Zeiss 4.5 x14 Scope, I have not shot it yet, just prepping my brass. Santa was good to me this year!

So Far I have accumlated:

100 PCS Hornady Once Fired Brass
Fed 215GM Primers
Berger 300gr Elite Hunting
Nosler 250gr AccuBond
Sierra 250gr GK

Powder: Magnum, RL 25, H1000, Retumbo

The 300 gr Bergers suppose to be very flat shooting with that high BC.

Congratulations on the 338 Lapua.
Just an FYI, Nosler has a 300 gr AB. The BC is .720 and results on WT deer were impressive.

Jeff, that sounds like a great setup. JD338 is correct in pointing out the 300 grain AB as a great bullet for that cartridge.

G'Day Fella's,

Alaska, I have only just recently found the time, to start working up loads, for my Rem 700 MLR rifle in .338 Lap Mag (with a 26" barrel).

It's an awesome rifle/cartridge combination but having more Spinal Injuries than I have Fingers, I'm a little bit recoil shy!!!
Because of this, I machined off the original Remington factory muzzle brake and designed, machined and fitted this, to the factory muzzle threads.
I use only ADI AR-2217 powder (which is marketed in the US as Hodgdon H1000 powder) with the 250grn bullets, and can safely achieve just over 3000fps with this combo.

You may want to look at the Berger 250 otm, bc .686 and velocity around 3000. I have loaded these recently in my DTA SRS with good results. I think if you run the numbers on that you will be happy.

I used both but decided on Retumbo for consistency.

I have had excellent results with Retumbo in my 338 RUM. the 250 gr AB is 3000 fps and .5 MOA.

Retumbo is what I will be starting with at 91.9 with 300gr Berger Elite Hunting Bullets in Hornady brass.

Just sent the Zeiss to the factory for a Target Turrent to replace the hunter turrent.

Reloader 33 with the 300gr AccuBond really shot good

Reloader 26 with 250 AccuBond will be my next try out

Just make sure that if you're not wearing a lot of clothing for your shoulder you are wearing a good recoil cushion. The Lapua is the ballistic twin of the .338RUM and I (along with Jim and a couple of others) can tell you that with 300 grain bullets along with 3000FPS your rifle is going to move you to the rear a little bit.

R-33 with 300's will get you near 3000fps. My Edge shoots 2990fps with 99grs of R-33 and a 300gr SMK. It's pretty accurate too. The last time I shot a 3 shot group at 100yds it was .188".
