338 RUM 300 gr AB Field Test

Very nice Jim! That is great performance buddy. I think you are starting to really like this Summer time deer hunting! Gotta say, I am a little jealous that you are getting to hunt these deer so early.. Man, talk about making a guy lust for the Fall!

That's a lot of bullet & rifle for a whitetail doe! Good shooting. You made an excellent hit.

JD,
That's impressive, the 338 RUM is a Cannon no matter what bullet you use. Now to test it out on some Elk this year! Good shooting and load work on your part.

Don

Nice shooting, looks like you got a complete pass through  .

How did the 800 yard shooting go?

Bill

Great job Jim. You're ready for our goats here!

Yeah, I saw the bullet kick up dust in the beans beyond the deer.
We did not spend much time on the 800 but the X7 Bulls Bag worked like a charm.

Last evening I was back out at the farm in hopes of filling another tag. A bachler group of bucks stepped out into the bean field about 475 yds away from my pick up. We grabbed the X7 Bulls Bag, rifle, binos and range finder and put the sneak on behind the out buildings to the bench behind the barn.
As I got set up, my friend Bill lasered a scrub buck at 439 yds and gave me the dope. I spun the dials and closed the bolt on a 338 RUM shell loaded with the 300 gr AB. I setteled the cross hairs high on the shoulder and the rifle roared. I lost the sight picture from the recoil but heard the whump of the bullet hitting the mark. Bill looked at me and said, "Oh ya". The 300 gr AB hit where aimed and exited the deer at the shoulder-neck junction on the off side, dropping him in his tracks.

I can just about taste him from here summer deer are great eating, congrats.

Dang Jim that looks like a lot of fun and good eats. Congrats once again on some fine shooting.

Bill

You're definitely getting the hang of that big Ultra Mag, Jim, much to the dismay of the deer in those fields.

Great shooting Jim! Congrats on a great shot. That almost looks like you are having way too much fun!

Scotty,

This is all in the name of research. Just trying to collect data on bullet expansion.
Yea, it is a lot of fun. Back straps are pretty good too.

Jim, you are a good man, sacrificing so much for the research! I look at the 300 AB's you sent every morning. They just make me smile when I see them..

I am not sure where you would have to hit a deer to hold onto one of them.. I am not even sure a lengthwise shot would hold onto one of them monsters.
