338 RUM ?'s.......................

I have a chance to pick up a NIB Rem 700 Stainless BDL for a price to low to post. However I do not have any experience with this round (I do with the 300 RUM). Of you guys who own one or have shot one what are your thoughts on it? Is it as accurate as the 300 RUM? What is expected barrel life and any throat erosion problems? Is it more accurate with the 225gr or 250gr bullets? What powders are you using? etc,etc,etc

Before I pull the trigger on this deal I just wanted to hear some first hand experince,whether it is good or bad.

I have a 700LSS in 338RUM and it is extreamly accurate with all bullet weights from 200 to 250 grs. Pleanty of power for anything you would ever want to hunt in NA.

The recoil isn't as bad as you might think, even from prone. :grin:
Just put on a good recoil pad.

It's a great elk and big deer round. I have one in Rem xcr and I wouldn't part with it for anything. If you reload you can make it perfect for whatever game you're hunting. Inherently accurate.

The 338 RUM is absolutely worthless, therefore you should tell me where I can find said rifle and get it off the streets ASAP.......

Seriously the 338 RUM is a GREAT cartridge with TONS of power. I used to load the 225gr AccuBond at 3140fps with retumbo powder. Accurate and very flat shooting. I would love to stumble into a deal like you are talking about right now.

Let me know if you get that 338 RUM, I have load data that I will give you.
The Nosler 200 gr AB, 210 gr PT, 225 gr PT and 250 gr PT all shoot under .5". The 225 gr AB shoots under .6".

I have shot a 5 pt bull elk(350 yds), 2 mule deer, wt deer and a blk bear (10 yds)with the 338 RUM. All were 1 shot kills dropping them in their tracks.

Practical means a 338 Rum vs a 125 Eastern Nebraska Whitetail :wink:

I was looking for a "one gun" for here in Nebraska as well as Alaska since I still go up there every year.It was just a little too much for here,and really too much for up there.You dont need a hand cannon while hunting up there,but sometimes it is nice to have one just in case :lol:
