338win

I have a number of single mothers in this area whose freezer I fill each fall. Also, there are a number of elderly who are no longer able to hunt, though they enjoy a few steaks or a nice roast. I endeavour to ensure that they are not forgotten.

No Moose for 2011 or 2012

Passed up Bull in 2011 enough meat in freezer

2012 season had a 40" on a string but I guess he caught wind of me....not within range.

Man, are you all done with the moose hunting or do you have any more chances to refill your freezer?

That is really cool to get another moose with the .338 WM. I owned and used the .338 WM as my favorite .338 for about 30 years. Now, I have switched to the .140 Weatherby, using ths same bullets (either PT's or sometimes TSR's). In any event, my favoraite game bullet for .338 platform rifles, up to the .340 WM, is the 225 gr Partition at 3000 fps muzzle velocity. I have been shooting the .340WM and a .338 Federal for 5 years now. all Partition, all of the time!

My season starts 01 Sep thru 20 Sep each year.......any Bull/Balls 20B area just outside town.

I have a 340 Accumark WBY fine shooter......

I bounce between a early 70's Browning FN in 300 Win Mag or my 338 Win for most of my Moose Hunting here.

I have a nice 338-06 WBY lightweight that sure is sweet with 200gr Etip and IMR 4320.

Another Moose at 75 yards on the 3rd of Sep after 1 day of hunting........I have two weeks of camp food to take home!

Same rifle and load..........338 Win RL 19 @ 75.1 with 225AB and WLR primers

Absolutely cool on that moose. I am kind of behind here but that is really good news to me for you. The 225 gr bullets in the .338 WM rock! I can't wait to try my .340 on an elk!

The 78.0 of RL19 duplicates the HE load by Hornady and Federal but u have to follow my load to the letter. 2950fps in 24" you should get close to 3000 fps in 26".

This is a upper OCW load the bullets can be 225gr nosler part/ grandslam/hornady SP and of course AccuBond.

This load was published in Handloader Magazine few years back.

No moose for 2011 and 2012 enough moose in freezer.

I am going to give it a whirl later, that would be one fearsome combo..

The 225gr with RL 19 @ 78.0 for the 338 Win Mag is also on Alliant Website for the load recommendation

they also clocked it over 2900 FPS in a 24"

Now I have a 338 Lapua...........look out Moose!

I have a little more work I wanna do to get the rifle where I want it, but the 225 AB/PT with RL19 is the first combo up!

Do be cautious; the 225 AB is not a 225 Speer BTSP or a Deep Curl.
