Bought a Remington 700 BDL in 35 Whelen off this forum a couple months ago. Have been stock piling 35 cal bullets for it and my Rem 673 in 350 RM, everything from Hot Cors to Partitions to Gamekings to Accubonds. Think I am near 1600 bullets. The drawer is getting difficult to slide open.

Added a Bell & Carlson Alaskan II stock to the rifle. Topped it with a Leupold 2.5-8 in Talley mounts.

Total weight less than 8 lbs.

Loaded some 225 gr Gamekings the other day. After getting the scope zeroed in, had a nice 6 shot group. I only have 480 more Gameking bullets to shoot.

Then will move onto the 225 gr Accubonds.

Will send the rifle off this summer to have it coated. Hunting the Oregon wetlands, things can get pretty soggy.

Got to love the 35 calibers.

Nicely done. You are there.

I couldn't agree more, the 35 calibers are all business. Nice looking hammer.

Wow! Son of a gun, that rifle looks GREAT! That is all business buddy! I love it!

I have been following a few of your bullet purchases! I think you have enough to keep that rifle in bullets for awhile. Great shooting. Nothing is going to out run that load.. Speaking of which, what is your load?

Again, that rifle looks excellent. You did excellent with it. I like the looks of that Alaskan and you set yours up really well. Can't wait to carry mine a little this Fall. It works well. Can't say enough how underrated the big Whelen is. It'll make a believer out of alot of folks, given the chance.

Good shooting. Nice thunder stick you got there. Like the color of the stock.

Awsome looking Hammer you have there Eric! I really like that stock alot. Are you going with basic black when you coat it? What are going to coat with?

Don't take this personal but uh... you suck. In a good sort of way! I wanted that BDL in a bad way but had to pass.

That is looking and shooting great! Those SGKs have a way to inspire confidence in many a rifle. I think you're going to be set for whatever for a long time. How are you going to coat it?

That is one good looking rifle and a excellent group. If you don't mind what load are you using including OAL? I am hoping that more 358 bullet becomes available in my neck of the woods:). You have a massed a good supplies of bullets.

Blessings,
Dan

Looks good. I'm waiting for my rifle which should be done shortly, been waiting for the stock. Seeing all these others is starting to get me a little anxious

While you are waiting, here is my M700 Classic 35 Whelen with a Vari X III 2.5-8x36mm.

Tell us about your 35 Whelen.

JD, love the classic look. The past year I tried to find one around here but came up empty. I took my old Rem 30-06 and dropped it off for the makeover. Went with #3 Shilen in a McMillan. Its been over 16 weeks for the stock. Heard a 20 week wait. I'll post when it comes in.

Sounds like a very nice build.
You are going to love the power and accuracy of the 35 Whelen.
Stock up on RL 15, its an excllent powder in the 35 Whelen with 225 gr and 250 gr bullets.

I am loading the 250 gr PT with 59.5 grs RL 15, R-P case and Federal GM210M primer. MV from the 22" barrel is 2584 fps.

My loads are starting a little lighter. 57 Gr of RL-15 behind the 225 Gameking. Coal 3.34.

When I start with the AB will start to push powder load up. I am not sure max velocity is as important as consistency, especially with a 35 caliber. I want a nice "shooting" load for the gameking and I think I am as close as I will get to there.

Couple local people that Cerakote or molycoat. Still learning the differences, but seems to be around $150-175 to coat the actioned barrel.

Oh, man, you can't be dropping the M word (McMillan) without giving specifics! Pattern? Fill? Color(s)?

You got me thinking JD. Since 59.5 grains is all the Re15 I can get in .35 Whelen case... Maybe I should be shooting the 250 Partition as well, instead of the AccuBond. Hmmm...

Have you tried a longer drop tube RR? I run 60 with the 250's and 61 with the 225 AB. You can't beat either bullet. I kinda like the 250 PT's a little more, but I think unless my quarry could eat me, the AB would do the trick as well... Oh, and that is in Rem Peters brass as well.

Since I now have two - 35 cal rifles, not sure I need two 45-70s. Need to think about where my Marlin 45-70 Cowboy fits.

I'm of two minds here Scotty. On the one hand, if the 59.5-grain charge can safely push a 250 Partition, then maybe I'm not getting the most out of that 59.5 grains of Re15. OTOH, I am not inclined to try to get a half grain more powder in the case because I know the velocity gain would be pretty insignificant. Maybe I ought to at least try it though. I can definitely rationalize and say I am looking for better accuracy and I guess that really could happen, even though my Whelen shoots very well with my current load.

I dunno. Maybe I should just leave it alone until I've nothing better to do...and I DO have enough pans in the fire to keep me busy for quite some time!

I will say this, my Whelen seems to shoot better with a little more. I know that all are different, but this was my experience working up a few different loads with mine and RL15. I would think you are mid 2600's with 59.5, but then again, maybe you have a tighter chamber, barrel, etc. Hard to tell, but with the way mine shoots the 225 AB and 250 PT, I am not in a hurry to change much up either.
