The local store has a Remington 700 in 35 Whelen. It looks clean and is light. There is a factory brake on the rifle. They are asking $600 for it. No scope or rings.

I like the 700 classics with a 22 inch barrel.

Break does nothing for me.

$600 is fair deal. I think a nice CDL would only be $650-$675

I am not going after it, if it were a pump, I would be out selling some things in the garage to make money.

I believe Scotty has a 700 but I believe it is a CDL. The CDL
normally has a 24" barrel. I have always had good accuracy with the 700 .

Blessings,

I have a 700 Classic 35 Whelen.
Plenty of horse power for anything in NA and she is a shooter.

I have a Classic and recently picked up a 7600. Both have proven to be shooters so far.

If the deal could be made I would suggest snagging the Classic..........come to savor the peace and tranquility that other Whelen owners enjoy.......and also know that whatever you're hunting is in for a very bad day if they get it front of it

Well said Ron.
17 WT bucks and a 250 lb Black Bear gave up the ghost pretty quick

I could not have said it better myself. I have three and am considering a fourth on a Ruger #1.

This SC buck was not very fond of my M70 in 35 Whelen.

I, on the other hand, was quite pleased with it. :)

What's not to like, Tom. The buck was a bigot and needed to go.

That pretty impressive, for any rifle & hunter. Nice work.

The .35 Whelen is one of those cartridges I've yet to mess with, but have always been interested in. Sure looks like a terrific big game stomper to me.

Guy,
A 225 gr at 2700 fps and a 250 gr at 2600 fps puts the 35 Whelen on the heels
of the 338 Win Mag. Its a pretty efficient round and it hits hard.

And it's very similar to the .375 H&H load I've been using for a few years:

260 gr AccuBond @ 2620 fps...

That's from Nosler's accuracy load via RL-15. Yes it's the lowest powered RL-15/260 gr load in their book, but it's very effective on bear, even out to 300 yds & beyond.

There appears to be considerable similarity in function between a max-level .35 Whelen load and a starter level .375 load - not much difference in the field at all. If any.

Interesting stuff. In my mind, until I saw the loads Scotty and others were posting here, I'd always relegated the .35 Whelen to about 2400 fps with a 250 gr bullet. Apparently it's capable of quite a bit more.

There is considerable overlap in the performance of similar cartridges, I have noticed no difference in on game performance with the 35 Whelen 225 gr @ 2750 fps and my 375 Ruger using the 260 gr AB @ 2750 fps. Add the 9.3 mm rounds in there as well, all of them will open a big wound channel and put game down nicely. The 9.3x62 properly loaded is another really neat round and should also be much more popular in N.A. than it is. Both it and the Whelen perform well without beating up the shooter.
