I decided, after much thought, that it would be impractical to rechamber my existing 35 WAI barrel to the 358 NM. it would end up just too light...I've done that before and it is a pain! so I had my smith order me a Shilen CM #4 contour 35 cal with a 1 in 14" twist. I'll have him finish it at 24" and try it before I have it ported or braked. I really am not recoil sensitive, especially after my eye doctor told me not to worry about the recoil hurting my repaired retina in my non shooting eye. I feel much better about this route, even though I'll probably end up with 180 to 225 gr bullets ( Barnes TTSX). I like having the option of heavy bullets ( especially that 310 Woodleigh!) Thanks for all the help guys, you have probably helped to "save" my one good eye! ha.

That should work nicely for you and should be accurate also.
Thanks again for the gifted 35 Whelen brass.

Jim, if you can get the 1-12 give it a thought. Mine shoots everything really well out of the Newton.

Sounds like this will be a cool build. I wouldn't be too worried about the recoil. If you were running 250's at 2700 with your Whelen you aren't too far off the Norma.

Shilen lists the 35 cal #4 with the 1 in 14. I'm not worried about it as I will be more focused on the lighter Barnes 200TTSx and those 225TSX you sent me awhile back. Heck, I never had a problem with that 1 in 16 on the Whelen! Its hard to find a longer bullet than that ol original 250X, and I could wad them in at 2600, lol. I like that 310, but even it is shorter than that 250X. I "almost" considered a nice Whitworth 338 Win I saw on gunbroker about two weeks before I started investigating my Whelen AI pressure. However, I've spent a lot of time with the 338 cals and wanted to stay with the 35. I used the 185XLC in the 338Win on elk; the 340W with the 210XBT on Plains game, and the 180AB in the 338 RUM on a 32" Aoudad...all were easy to shoot, just "loud" with the wrong brake on them! I never used a brake on my first 300 Win in the Mod 700 BDL SS nor its twin in .375 H&H, both handled recoil very well. I like the 300 Win with that ol 180 XBT, but these mediums with the same weights still make a bigger hole and penetrate as well, all for the same relative recoil effect. More Power! ha. I bet that 225 TSX won't be bad either unbraked. I'm kinda tired of worrying about snow/ice getting or forming in my muzzlebrakes, even though I use a toy balloon or electric tape. The balloon is easily torn off or wiped off. The tape works the best,of course, but it seems its easier to keep it on an unbraked "slick" barrel than the bulb of a brake...to me anyhow. Oh well, if its too harsh I'll have it Mag Na Ported as a compromise.

I think you'll really like it Jim. If you've liked the 338 there's no good reason you won't love the Norma.
