Just in the process of adding this bad boy to my collection. It is a custom M700 with a Shilen barrel.

That will get the job done about anywhere. It'll definitely ensure that you're loaded for bear!

225 at 3200 fps
250 at 3K

she will do!

I will for sure post my results when she arrives. I have been wanting one for a number of years since reading some Layne Simpson articles. The previous owner stated that she beat him up pretty good from the bench

I don't doubt it. Still, it will be a definite asset on bringing down tough game.

The 358 STA is a hammer! The 250 gr PT at 3000 fps will handle anything in NA.

Would anyone have a good starting load suggestion for the 250gr PT? Was thinking powders in the H4350 range would be a good start.

Check with Alliant, I would think RL 22 and RL 25 would be good powders for the 358 STW.

Wow, that is one awesome cartridge and rifle. Love those big 35's! Very cool, can't wait to see the load work. Scotty

I have had a "man crush" on the .358 STA for a long time now (since nosler #4, I think)! Jorey and I are talking about building him a .358/375R (About the same as a 358 STA?).

That is one fine looking peice you have there. Would lover to see some bullet tests out of that bad boy

BTW, I think that the 358 STA would be the perfect elk smasher! Its what the 338 WM wants to be when it grows up!

I could not agree more Jake! That was so well said, I can't add anything to it! Scotty

Funny thing is I have a .358 Norma as well, but just had to have the STA. I am not sure what bullets to try first. Some have suggested 225gr, or I could just go with the 250gr or 280gr Swift. Woodleigh has a 275 and 310, but not sure if they would hold up in the STA or Norma.

boomer68,

If it were me, I would start with the 250 gr PT. You may not need anything heavier as the 250 gr PT has a BC of .446 and it will penetrate deep on anything you would hunt. I would think 2900 fps+ would shoot pretty flat and hit hard.

The Woodleighs will hold together in either the 358 Norma or the 358 STA, as will the Swift A-Frame. However, I would not hesitate to use the 250 grain Partition at the velocities generated. They will handle any game you wish to take with either of those cartridges. I wouldn't hesitate to tackle coastal grizzlies with either of those rifles pushing 250 grain PTs.

All this talk will have me turning my 338 into one of the 358 magnums if this keeps up. Can't get enough of them 35's! Scotty
