Does anyone load for the .378, and any load suggestions? Just bought a Mk V.

You've come to the right place. I had 3 or 4 of them over the years and have loaded just about every possible combination. What do you want to know?

Hi POP,

Well, I have never owned one before and always had a interest. What is a good powder and bullet combo to get started with? Just N American game to start off with (elk, moose). It has a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x on it and hope this holds up :)
I have owned and fired .458 Win, .375H&H, .416 Rigby and wonder how this bad boy kicks? Should I replace the factory recoil pad with a Limbsaver and put my Caldwell Led Sled to use? :p

Ok the best powder bullet combo are the following.

With the 260 Nosler Accubonds I can get to 3200 fps with H4831, Reloder 22 , Reloder 25 and IMR 7828. Start at 110 gr or so and work up. I maxed out around 115 with the RL22, H4831 and add 2-3 more grains --PENDING ON RIFLE--- for the other aforementioned powders.

Other bullets I have used are :

270 Barnes TSX at 3100 fps, easily obtainable with the above powders
270 Hornady SP at 3150 with RL22 and H4831---1 bull elk taken
300 gr BT Hornady at 3050 fps with 7828--2nd Bull elk taken.

300 Sierra Boattail at 3050 fps with 7828 and Rl22--totally academic point since I will not use a Sierra on game especially from a super mag like this! Like throwing iceballs against a brick wall.

I can tell you your 378 Bee is gonna sting from the bench if it is not muzzle breaked. If it is no sweat at all.

My current 378 Bee (have not shot it yet) does not have the accubrake but damn she looks good!

The scarey part is mine is the same as yours, no break
I am seriously thinking of installing a Limbsaver, and put my led sled to use. Thanks for the load suggestions.

The Limbsaver or Pachmyer Decelerator recoil pads will make a big difference in felt recoil.
Since you have a lead sled, go for it. So long as you have enough scope eye releif, you won't even notice the recoil in the heat of the moment.

True...Unless you're shooting prone off a bipod!!!!!!!!!!!

What the heck are you ouching about? I am the one that got hammered!

You're the one that talked me into shooting full blast 378 bee loads! And not from a lead sled either but off your stupid bunny ears! :x The darn bench was so low I might as well be shooting prone! No accubrake either!

If memory serves right I could not get you remotely close to that rifle that day! Why was that? Hmmmmm!

Man ! My shoulder bone still hurts!!!!!!

I had a bad experience many years ago with a SxS 12ga. Both barrels loaded with 3" mag load, and made the mistake of pulling both triggers while sitting at the bench
I had a bruise that covered most of my shoulder and part way down my arm.
As you can see, it hasn't stopped me from shooting the big nasties

Is the recoil like a fast snap with alot of muzzle jump, or more like a big push? Used to own a Brno 602 that I got rechambered and rebored to .416 Rigby and shot a load with the 400gr Hornady at 2600fps and it wasn't too bad - no muzzle break and factory pad. Used only a PAST shield.

Take care
Ian

Enjoy your 378!
Mine has the brake, but I usually shoot without it.
The 378 is alot of fun, I like 270gr TSX in mine so far...
