That had to be a great experience for you to be in a room with so many fine guns and mounts. I am glad you had that opportunity. I have not personally shot a Gaur but I accompanied my father on a hunt in Malaysia many years ago and remember them. huge animals

A happy wife makes for a happy home LOL Paul you made an excellent deal sir, very nice

Sean, you will be surprised to find a lot of 30-06 rifles still being used in Africa. You will be taking the second best two gun battery available. The first being the 300 H & H and the 416 Rigby I am sure Scotty saw that one coming LOL

AH - always interesting posts!

Gaur - I know almost nothing about them except they're supposed to be enormous!

Yes, a .30-06 coupled with something much bigger, like a .375 or a .416, seems like it would make a terrific combination, not only for Africa, but for Alaska and probably anywhere else as well.

.300 H&H. Hmph! Yes, that's another cool cartridge, and one I've been tempted to latch onto - almost went with one in a Number One to accompany my .375 Number One. That would make a fun, matching pair.

Ah, yes, Aleena. I've often confessed that my first rifle cost me almost $7,000 (carpeting for the living room and three bedrooms didn't come cheap). Another was well over $10,000 (dining room suite). And so it goes. However, mama is happy, and that is priceless. 'Cause, as the saying goes, "If mama ain't happy,m ain't nobody happy."

Not to change the subject (too much), but how are you doing with all that snow, Mike? Or has it missed you?

We got 4-5 inches Doc, most was south of me about 1hr along I-80.

I imagine my brother, in Lincoln, caught some of that, though I haven't spoken with him. And I know my daughter in MN caught it full on. I read the news about the massive pile-up on I-80. Terrible. Stay warm, and stay safe.

I am fortunate in that I was single for almost seven years before Donna and I got married. So, nearly all of the guns that are in my safe, and my safe came with me when we got married. I sold my shotguns and several rifles after we go married but have maintained a decent inventory of rifle, scopes and handguns in the process. So far this arrangement has not cost the joint accounts anything for guns.

The sale of shotguns helped to replace the (4) colt revolvers that were stolen from me with buying other handguns to replace them.

However she has her trips to visit family and things that I can not do, due to my compromised immune system. So she is happy with those and I just go shooting while she is gone. I do miss her a lot though, when she is gone.

We are on a dead run right now and I dont remember where your question was asked, possibly via pm. sorry, but I only have time for a short and quick answer.

The 416 Dakota is no more. however, it was based of off the 404 Jeffery. You are thinking of the 416 Murphy, of which only one was made and it was also based off of a 404 Jeffery.

The 404 Dakota is also based off of the 404 Jeffery, but with the goal of obtaining 416 Rigby ballistics. The 450 Dakota is based of off the 416 Rigby, but it is closer to the 460 Weatherby ballistically.

The ammo for the 404 and 450 Dakota would be impossible to find if yours should be lost in transit and the 416 Dakota would be even harder to find, if any even exists, outside of your reloading bench and you will be a long way from that bench

Charlie, I will bet she misses you as much as you miss her, when she is away. I hope you and Donna have a very nice Christmas

A, thank you

We well pick up the CZ 416 Rigby right after Christmas for our son. We have already notified him and he is holding it for us.

Thanks to everyone for their responses

No doubt about that!! My brother and I know that all too well. We bought her a new washer and dryer for Christmas so hopefully we keep her off our backs for a bit. I know he has given me my fair share of bumps and bruises along the way thanks to mama. So I try to keep her happy, but it doesn't always work as planned.
