.44 mag bullet?

I've been happily loading and shooting .44's for over 20 years. Haven't done a lot of handgun hunting though - almost always seem to grab a rifle when it's time to fill the tag.

Nosler's 300 gr .44 bullet has been very accurate with my handloads, but I was just wondering... Would there be an advantage to using the 250 gr Partition handgun bullet? I've never loaded the partitions in a handgun cartridge before.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks, Guy

Guy,

I have a S&W 629 Classic 44 Rem Mag. I have used the 250 gr PT with excellent results on hogs and WT Deer. The PT will give good expansion, trama and an exit wound. I have heart shot 2 WT deer and that bullet shreads the heart into peices.
My pet load for the 250 gr PT is 21.0 grs H110, W-W case and CCI primers. With a Leupold M8 2x scope, I can shoot a ragged hole group at 50 yds off the bench if I do my part. Recoil and muzzle flash are not too bad either.

Hope this helps.

My go to load was always 300 XTP with 20 gr H110.

It is a moose of a load.

Now, very soon I will be playing with the Nosler 300's.

JD, My daughter wants to know "how many yards was it when you shot the deer"?

As I recall,
The first one was from my bow stand and was around 20 yds, the second one was 60 yds. both were were heart shots.

Nosler needs to make a bullet for my SW 500!

Guy, the partitions make a great load for handgun hunting. I use them in my Super Redhawk and they have taken everything from white tail and Javelina to crows and rattlers. One thing I REALLY enjoy about the nosler round is its ability to be used in different weapons. I load 22.4 grains of H110 with the Winchester Magnum primer, this round shoots well in my redhawk, desert eagle, Ruger Lever action rifle, and the old ruger semi 44 carbine. Its not the best in my short barreled colt. I get alot of powder residue in the short barrel.

What vel. do you get in the Super Redhawk (which barrel) & in the Marlin?

Nomosendero, I have an 8in barrell on the redhawk that is magnaported and the last 1/4 in has been relieved of riflings, I'm not 100% sure on the FPS but in the first testing we did at 21.5 gr of H110 we used a cheapo chronograph and was seeing 1380 as an average. I've gone up a bit for the accuracy in the redhawk and the Ruger 44 semi auto carbine. With a fixed 4 power the redhawk is set at 75 yards. I also have the Ruger lever carbine and the use the same round, I haven't chronographed either rifle as I was looking more at shot placement than speed.
