I've acquired a used, but not abused S&W N - frame Hand Ejector 2nd Model in .44 Special. The serial dates to late '25 or early '26, so it has been heat treated.
I've read some John Taffin info, and he said one can load these revolvers up to 21k psi, the equivalent of the .45 ACP of that day, because the S&W M1917 was the same revolver, with the dull military finish.
I have the following powders: Titegroup, CFE Pistol, Unique, 2400, AA-7, and IMR 4227.
I have the following Hornady bullets: 180 gr XTP's, 200 gr XTP's, and the. 240 gr LSWCHP's
I was wondering what y'all's favorite loads were for your .44 Special's?
I've included pics of her below.
She's just a shooter grade. She's had her barrel shortened from 6.5 inches to 5 inches, and she's had a reblued done, plus someone added a not so perfect nickel finish to her.
To me it doesn't matter, because I'm going to shoot her, but not abuse her.
She still locks up tight, and her timing is impeccable. So, to me, it would be a shame to not shoot her.
