444 Marlin

That is pretty impressive,,,a penetrator it is. With that meplat, its plenty at even 1200 fps terminal imo.

Honestly it makes no sense to me, making a bullet that does not expand at its target velocity, but then again you may be right about the meplap. I guess that is how the casts work??????????

It's still all mechanical on impact in nature Fotis. While opinions still vary, most I talked with and then some reading for 8-9 mos. prior to casting my own,,,, was slow moving, some expansion is prefered. And I picked on those I knew, that had well over 20 yrs experience in harvesting game with cast. Otherwise match the meplat to terminal velocity. And Veral Smith's formula for that has qiute some merit from those I talk to getting into it. Others say not, but I'm going with majority I believe. Hopefully get some actual time in and find out personally on game. This past year again just wasn't the best for me, but that is also the reason I want to find some big hogs to shoot this spring. Remember, the expanding bullet really only came to be with the advent of the smaller bores. I don't recall any really old time hollow points, Just were not needed. This velocity/ meplat thing is like more experienced based science if you will. The art and science of cast bullets is still learning after all this time. Theres more, but thats the jist of it.

Looking at the other results Fotis, I would think that 300 grain Sierra would be a serious hitter. It also function's fine through my rifle and it's partly a Remlin, so I have no complaints about it. Might have to put one of them in jugs soon..

Thank you for the heads up Dave. I do need to order a set.

Good shootin'! I need to get mine out and finish up the load I'm working up for mine.

What load are you working with? I need to get some sights for mine. It'll be alot more fun once I get the Skinners on the gun.

I'm getting good results with H33 and a 265gr Hornady Interlock. RL-7 was showing good results too.

Yeah, H322 would be another powder I would look at as well. It is super in the 45-70 as well. I am trying to stick with RL7, since that is what I keep on the bench..

What was the OAL you used with the Sierra 300gr and RL7? I just picked up some of those bullets and want to try them in my 444P.

I think it was 2.55"? Not home right now, but once I get back I will measure a few. Plus I wanna smash a few into jugs to see what they do.
