Here is a picture of the buck my buddy shot (fellow Marine).  He has the identical 1895G as mine and uses the Hornady Leverevolution rounds for his.  He sent me the picture via phone, as he is in TX right now, doing a little deer hunting.  He said it dropped at the shot.  I will get some more details, but I doubt there was any bullet to be found!  Scotty

Congratulations to your buddy on his spike.
The 45-70 hammers deer.

Man, I am pretty excited to hunt with mine. I just loaded up 9 rounds to tune my 100 yard zero and check it at 200 yards. As long as everything goes well, that is what I will be carrying this year, as much as I can. Gotta get a kill with that rifle. Scotty

Scotty,

You are going to love it. The Guide gun is a joy to carry.
Let us know how the SABR reticle works for long range.

Will do. Hoping to give it a try this afternoon if the light holds out some. Scotty

Jake don't hold back! They are a blast! Tellin ya, if you want one, go and find yourself one. I love mine, and it isn't just a short range gun. With the right loads and optics, you can stretch it a fair piece. Scotty

Jake,

You are not alone. Course, I have a couple of Model 94s in 356 which are not bad shooters in their own right.

Jake, I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. I didn't have one, and all the others kept talking about shooting this and that 300-500gr bullet in their Marlins. Well, I walked into a PX and there one was, a Guide Gun. I bought it pretty quick. They are some great shooters. I haven't heard of many that won't shoot MOA at 100 pretty easily. My first load was MOA, without really trying to awfully hard. Plus, the variety of loads you can shoot, from little soft kickers to full blown African Animal Killers is pretty neat. Man, all this talk makes me really want to get out and get mine zeroed. Scotty

Here is a pretty cool video.

Scotty,

I missed this video somehow when you first posted it. I don't believe that fellow will have any trouble keeping the zombies at bay. That was some fine shooting over iron sights.

I like DrMike missed the video the first time around. I would not even want to be coming up hill with him holding the high ground, even with those "old" rifles and catridges. Did you notice the way he handled the trapdoor, he has played with that a lot, very smooth and quick in his movements. The old man can shoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
