45-70 ?

I love my marlin 1895 guide gun. if you can find one with JM stamped on the barrel-thats the marlin made ones before remington took over and had problems. I put a 1.5-5 power leupold on it-just looks right with the small scope, and it is a shooter. The JM's seem to have a better trigger pull from what I have felt. You will love the 45-70 I have 3 a 1884 cadet model trapdoor, a contender carbine 21" barrel(shocking how accurate it is) and the guide gun. check out this forum for more info- http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/

The 45-70 was my grandfathers favorite cartridge , I always had in my mind someday I would pick one up. Last year I bought a Marlin 1895 guide gun it was new so I'm sure its probably a Remington , next time I pull it out maybe I'll have a look to see. I put a WW trigger in it as the stock trigger pull was unacceptable . I put a XS ghost ring sight on it , removed and machined off the cross bolt safety and locked it in the off position effectively eliminating it. Ill probably add the WW ejector at some point . The machining on the action components was a little rough this was easily corrected with a bit of polishing , function has been flawless . Now what I will tell you is if I own a gun that's more fun to shoot I'm not sure what it would be . The gun is pure joy and fun. I have shot scopes all my life so the sights seem positively crude to me but I still average 3-4" at 100 yards and I seem to shoot it better each time out. I wish I would have picked one up years ago. good hunting KH
