Hello

I'm getting ready to start reloading for 3 new calibers 44mag and 45 colt,357 mag

the 44mag is a brand new SuperBlackHawk 7 1/2" barrel. gun will be used to hunt whitetail, hogs and a second gun on blackbear hunts. going with 240gr bullets the big question is what powder???
2400,AA#9,unique,4227,bullseye, 4100

the 45 colt is a brand new model BlackHawk 4 5/8"barrel this gun for all the same things as the 44mag. i looking at 300gr JSP from sierra or speer. same question what powder??

the 357 mag is a GP100 4" use same as the others. with 158gr bullets, and the same last question what powder

thanks guy and gals.

the 44mag is my brothers, and the other two are mine.

Take a look at H110. This is the powder I use for my 44 Rem Mag. Great velocity and excellent accuracy.

Get you some H-110 and mag primers and you will be set. As for bullets it has been my experience that the Hornady XTP HP is a great bullet on game. The 240 gr in 44 mag, 250 gr in 45 Colt Ruger loaded stiff, 158 and 180 gr in 357 mag.

The .45 with the 4 5/8" barrel can be quite a handful to control with full power loads.

Just a thought.

Midway USA has Hogue one piece grips for the BH and I think they are on sale right now. I have a 5 1/2" 45 Colt BH and with the stock grips and heavy loads it was a handful to control. I put the Hogue one piece grip on it and turned it into a pussy cat.

H 110 is a great powder I'v shot some 300 gr xpt out of mine and they are a handfull imr 4227 is also a very good powder with the 250 gr noslers and right now I'm getting ready try some titegroup with a 260 gr lead cast bullets.

thanks guys ive looked in to the rubber grips but haven't got any yet, i'll have to look at the H110

Another vote for H110.
I use the sister, non-canister powder, WC296.
With 23.5gr behind the Noserl 240's it shoots great in my Vaquero.

Both H110 and Lil'Gun will work great with the heavy 45 cal bullets. I've pushed the 335 gr LBT WFN to 1150 fps with book max load of Lil'Gun in the 4-5/8" NMBH and took a 62" bull moose @ 15 yds in Alaska in 2008. I now use H110 for my 285 gr LBT WFN and run it around 1200 fps. And yes, the rubber grips really do tame the felt recoil.

H110 does everything I need for a 44RM. Great speed and accuracy. Scotty

Wow, that is one AWESOME bull moose. Congrats on such an awesome animal. Scotty

That bad boy certainly has some good mass in his antlers. Congratulations. It would be a hoot to take a moose with a wheel gun.

but not to bad in the 357
