There is diferent data for strong action revolvers like the Ruger blackhawk and the Thompson contender. I have used the "strong action" loads in my Henry Big Boy with good results. I am a little hesitant to "work up" loads out of fear of damaging the action before I see pressure signs in the revolver.

Their forte is belching out 250 cast lead bullets at 825 fps or so.

I inherited a Colt New Frontier in .45 Colt a few years ago. I still haven't spent much time developing a load, but I got some pretty good results shooting commercial cast 250-grainers with IMR Trail Boss. It is the most fun-to-shoot centerfire handgun I have ever had! Accurate, too.

You have a replica of a 1873 colt and you must use loads for that level of firearm. There is nothing wrong with the orginal loads of the 45 colt. A 250-260 grn bullet going 800-900 fps will pretty much kill anything you hit with it.
In my Ruger Blackhawk45 I only load to the 950-1100 fps just because I can and figure a little more is okay with out getting to much recoil. in fact I also have a 44 super blackhawk and anymore I load it down to light 44mag- heavy 44spl level. I prefer the 45 to the 44. THe only reason I got a 44 is it was to good of a deal from a friend. $150 for ruger super blackhawk, 4 3/4 barrel, unfluted cylinder, 4 boxes of ammo, and holster.
My 45 is the dual clynder with the extra 45 acp cly. I have not even used it. 45 colt is a great cartridge.

Do any of you guys have any 45 colt loads?
If your just plinking in the back yard..
I load my Cowboy guns with 6gr. True Blue Ramshot powder and a 200 gr rn lead.
