458 Lott Loads and opinions.

have been really itching for a Ruger #1 in 458 Lott lately so I got one! :eek: .

Can you share some of your full power loads and some 'plinking" or should I say reduced loads?

BTW just for laughs what can you launch a 300 gr Barnes X at from this beast?

Here's my 458 Lott:

It's got a 19" barrel, so velocities are certainly gonna be different from what you might see. My favorite plinking load is 65gr IMR3031 topped with a 350gr Hornady RNSP. It gives me about 2000fps. 88gr of Win748 pushes a 500gr Hornady RNSP at about 2350. Factory A-Square 465 LL runs 2465.

The plinking load is like shooting a 12g shotgun. It's quite a lot of fun lobbing bullets out to about 350 yards. The full power loads aren't much fun after the first few shots.
