I don't know why I'm so enamored by this caliber. I'm dreaming again of a lightweight Varmint/Deer rifle in either 260 Remington or another 6.5-47 Lapua. Waiting in the wings is the Lilja 3 grove, no.3 - 8 twist barrel.

I wasn't much a fan of .264 caliber untill I bought my son a .260. Another fine round parented by the .308. However, for my personal use, I went witha 6.5x257 Rob. AI. One I won't give up.

Lots of potential with that barrel.

6.5 Creedmoor perhaps?

If I didn't have a Creedmoor, it'd be top on my list, but I sure fancy a Tacticool rifle in the Lapua...

Very cool! A lightweight 6.5 would be pretty sweet.. Good luck with whatever you build DF.

Rommel,

I agree, you just gotta love the 6.5mm's. I really like my 6.5mm Rem Mag.

Thanks Gents. I might opt for another 6.5-47 Lapua so that I can use the same reamer that my smith use on my other rifle. Looking for another action for this build. Probably another Remmy mated to a Manner to keep the weight around 6.5 to 7 lbs.

I'm a big fan of 6.5's you can't really go wrong with any of the smaller ones, the 260, 6.5 Creedmore, 6.5x55 and 6.5X47 basically do the same things in slightly different ways. My preference is in the order listed but there is no bad choice here.

I just picked up 2 6.5 barrels. A Rock Creek M40 and a fluted Bartlein Sendero contour. I think the Rock will be a 6.5-284 and the Bartlein will be a 6.5-300wm. I also have a Rock Med. Palma but I picked up the Bartlein to drop a bit of weight for a hunting gun. I've never really been a huge 6.5 fan, even though I've built a few, so I decided to give it a go again. I have a 6.5STW reamer too so I might have to build up the other one as well.

Good luck with your project DF.

I am a huge fan of the 6.5x47 Lapua! A buddy of mine has one he built and every time he takes it to the range, I sit there and drool over it! I just might have to get one myself...

You haven't begun to saturate your safe with Lapuas yet. Go with another Lapua.

That's the same barrel I used in my 6.5 Creedmoor build, you're going to love it.

If the Lilja can match my Krieger, then I'll be a happy camper.

This is the reason why I love this caliber

Rommel,

Those are assuredly enviable groups. I don't doubt that the Lilja will serve you well.

Man, those are some very awesome groups DF!! I can see why you like it so much..

Guys, understand that this cartridge was designed by Lapua with accuracy in mind. Lapua wants a cartridge that can compete with 6MM BR at 300 meters but with better ballistic coefficient and longer barrel life. The 6.5-47 is also great at 600 and 1000 yards. As a hunting round, I believe the cartridge with the right 140 grain bullet will be a good deer or even elk round.
