6mm Remington?

Consistency (accuracy, velocity, pressure) wise is the 6mm better than the .243?

As I stated before.....To some? Absolutely! Again one man's trash is another's treasure.

The 6mm should have been way more popular than the 243 Winchester.
It is Remington's fault for being so myopic in their marketing.
They gave it a twist so 90 gr bullets (max) would stabilize. They never really saw it as a big game cartridge.
If they would have there would be no reason for the 243 win to exist.

I have some HOT news to share on the 6mm Remington, but it's just going to have to wait. My wife wants to watch a show! :?

You know......................... I might just keep this to myself :!: :!: Oh the RADD is kicking in gentlemen big time!

     6mm REMINGTON
Okay guys you know how I have told you that we need to send e-mails or any communications to Ruger, Remington, and Winchester to chamber the 6mm REMINGTON. Every couple of weeks I have done just that to at least put the idea out there and to let them know that I think some folks would love to see this happen. I just sent another e-mail to Remington and to Ruger a couple of days ago. There was no way on the Winchester site to send e-mails for suggestions or at least I could not locate it but I figured out a way to have it come across anyway. There was a product evaluation or problem section and MY problem was that they were not chambering for the 6mm Remington and the .280 appeared to be slowly fading. With Remington, I said two models and two models only, that's all we need them in, The 700 MTN rifles stainless laminated and the 700 CDL in the stainless laminated. For Ruger I told them the #1B and the Hawkeye sporter with the laminate stock (I would even be thrilled with just the plain simple walnut stock). For Winchester, it was the Extreme Weather SS. I wished and begged for 24 inch barrels in each RADD fueled letter! I JUST CHECKED MY E-MAIL AFTER WORKING A 9 HOUR DAY ON MY DAY OFF WHEN I GOT HOME AND THERE WAS AN E-MAIL FOR ME FROM REMINGTON. BELOW I COPIED AND PASTED THE MESSAGE SENT. I have already started sticking away a few dollars so I will have cash in hand come first of the year to order one up! I wonder if those Remington boys have been reading our posts as well. What do you guys think :!: :!:

Thank you for your interest in our products. We have received several suggestions similar to yours and appreciate you taking the time to write in. We routinely forward all suggestions to our marketing departments for review. Consumer feedback allows us to understand consumer perception of our products. The greater the number of suggestions for a particular issue, the greater the likelihood of implementing the suggestion. Also you will be happy to hear that for 2011 we have decided the 6mm will be the caliber of choice for our annual Limited edition 700 CDL SF. I would encourage you to speak to your dealer early next year and get one on order as this will be a one time limited edition for 2011, and while me may chamber it in other rifles down the road, this one is for sure and sounds exactly like what your looking for

You had better get your order in now so that you can have it early in the new year. Good job on that.

That would be the rifle to have! The CDL SF's are very nice! 6mm with a 24" would be a sweet carrying rifle. That is great. Better start saving now! Scotty

Scotty you are correct sir. I just got back from a local store and did some checking and looking on price. They WILL NOT accept orders until after the first of the year so I cannot have one guaranteed to have it put away, but I should still be able to get one. I'm pretty excited!! Pillar and glass bed it, put a 6x 42mm Leupold scope on it, and one of the Claw (smaller shoulder pad version) sling, and I would be set!

Thanks Pop did you order one yet? I love the laminates, but not quite sure I could come to admire the color scheme on the blued one. Now the classic with the wonderful design on the stock and the soft finish tones is awesome. I don't like the cheap plastic stock that comes with it, but what the heck. Now if it had the aluminum bedding block, but I don't believe these do. I prefer the looks of the classic, but then even if I got it or the laminate I would have both glass and pillar bedded before I ever started load work on them. Help me out here pops, what should I do? I also just checked on the CDL stainless fluted 24" barreled 6mm Remington that will come out after the first of the year. It will set me back about $850-900 so the ones from Grice are a better deal. The CDl is absolutley gorgeous though and the stainless is nice. :? :? :? :?

Hard to go wrong with the SF CDL's. They are some really sharp rifles. I think they are some of the most appealing rifles Remington builds. I guess that is why I am so stuck on them, for this moment in time! Scotty

Oh, so just because you want one means it's better?

So far you haven't really made it convincing that the 6 is a superior cartiridge over the .243...
It's a P-R-E-F-E-R-E-N-C-E..... nostalga, the neck looks cool dude!!, or whatever, it's not better... How can you possibly thinks it better, if it doesn't have better internal, external, ballistics?? It doesn't hit harder, fly faster, nor is any more accurate. Sorry POP but 250 FPS ain't squat.

How bout this, they both kick butt?

Man, I will take 250FPS on about anything, that is kinda the difference between the 338WM and the 338RUM. If that ain't squat, I don't know what is. It flies flatter and hits with more energy. 250FPS quite a bit in energy speak. Don't know, don't have a dog in this fight, as I own a 243 Winchester, but I don't expect much out of a .244" bullet. HA! Either way, Ford-Dodge-Chevy's, nobody really ever wins and we all get muddy. Scotty

250 fps means squat???????

OK then why do we even have the 300 Win mag when we had the 30-06? Or even the 308 if you limit analogies to factory rounds?
Like I said if Remington would have initially offered the 6mm with the correct twist for heavier bullets, they only reason the 243 might have survived is because it can be made from mil surp 308 cases.

OK then why do we even have the 300 Win mag when we had the 30-06?

Marketing my boy.... The 06 is pleanty enough for anything up to a Griz....
I know a gunsmith who nailed a Moose at 600 yards, oh yeah..... AND KILLED IT.
Give it up POP.... you loose.

I concede that the aforementioned is in fact, a fact. All I am saying is that with a cartridge that sports 250 fps more it can make shots like that easier. More velocity, energy, less wind drift less drop.
That is expressly why the magnums exist. If we have a 338 (250 gr at 2700 fps ) why do why need a 338-378 (250 gr at 3100)?

Marketing? For sure; up to a certain extent but only a simple minded person could not see the advantages of increased velocity.

Do not get me started Jim!!!! Especially with the 100 buck rebate!

Yeah Fotis! Whats up, I figured you would be receiving that 6mm Rem by now. I thought it was a done deal! Scotty

Fotis,

I know. I am thinking of selling off my M700 VLS 22-250 and getting the 6mm Remington.
It would make for a better coyote rifle and a lot more fun to carry too!
