6mm Remington?

Man, giving up the 22-250! Holy smokes! That little 6mm has a hold on ya Jim! We thought Fotis had it bad, but it seems to be contagious! Man, I can handle another caliber addiction right now, I will have to live in my toy hauler down by the river! Scotty

Well, I guess you got me on that Boolit, it might not stop the Earth from turning, but I do think it matters. Again, everyone here has favorites and we don't need to defend them at all around here. If you don't think the 6mm is worth the extra attention, don't sweat it. It isn't worth arguing about. Besides, its Fall, the time we all, as hunters look forward to. We should be talking about the deer/elk/bear/moose/etc we are hunting, not about favorite cartridges, if you are happy with your chosen firearm, there isn't anybody here that will argue with you about it. This site is the best, cause we don't argue. Scotty

only a simple minded person thinks (that 250 fps) makes a difference.

Phenomenal! :|

Ok Boolit.... I see.

Anyway.... on another note I am ready to pull the trigger on that Kool Blue 6mm 700 BDL!

1 OF 350? Man OH Man!

Scotty,

I shot a 243 Win for years. The extra 250 fps from the 6mm Rem would be just the ticket for busting coyotes.

I'm amazed how this little bit of increased velocity can make a difference. I read an artical from a riflemaker named Franklin
off of 6MMBR... and the only thing he could say comparing the 6mm and the 243 was the neck length would cause less throat erosion, that's it. JD... you say you shot the 243 for years and it did the job, then ALL of a sudden, the extra 250 fps is needed?? So if a prominate gun maker can't justify why the 6mmAI is better than any 243 loadings, then there's no real reason it is better except having a "maximum mist effect" even at the longest ranges. I THINK that this whole deal about this thread is another toy in the toy box, AND eventually will make it to the bottom and be forgoten.

Yeah, much as I enjoy the 6mm, there's not all that much difference between the two in the field.

Dude!

It is a matter of choice as we said. Let it go.
If 250 fps can add an additional 50, 75 100 yards I (along with some others) will take it. Others will not.
Freedom of choice.

Ok, I'll let it go. So if it's choice, it's not better. Ok.

Pop I just don't know about the blue and grey laminate. That blue must match your own baby blues or something, I don't know :?:  I prefer the laminate over the walnut stock on the 700 Classic just for the strenght and stability of it, but I'm not sure if I can wrap myself around the blues brother :!:

Now I told you all that Remington is making the 6mm in their Model 700 CDL SF limited addition for 2011. That is one sweet looking rifle. I am having a hard time because I can get the classic for about $250.00 less. There must be enough of us writing to Remington and other rifle makers that they have SEEN THE LIGHT so to speak. The guy from Remington who dropped me the e-mail said that they could start chambering the 6mm in other models as well, he did not know at this point. That sure would be nice, and it would be even better if they would make the magazine box a smidge longer so we can seat the heavier bullets out a bit further. A box length of 3.00 would be just perfect without being too roomy!

As everyone can probably imagine that by using 6mm REMINGTON as my monicker, that I am probably pretty attached to this cartridge and think it is a very excellent chambering to have. Even as much as I love the 6mm, I have stayed out of the banter back and forth that's been going on over whether the 6mm or the 243 is a better cartridge. They BOTH are excellent rounds and each one has many many fans of them respectively. I believe that the 6mm Remington case is a slightly better designed case. The Remington case has the 26 degree shoulder where the .243's is 20 degrees, and the longer neck length is also a desirable feature on the 6mm. It also has a little more powder capacity than the 243 so with everything else being equal, realistically you are going to have a slightly faster cartridge in the 6mm than the 243 . In looking at Nosler Guide #6, both the .243 and the 6mm test rifles have 24" barrels with 1-10" twists. The maximum load shown for each with cartridge with the 100 gr. bullet shows the 6mm Remington's maximum at 3261 fps with the 243's being 3144 fps. Now that is exact information provided by in MY OPINION the "best" bullet maker out there that they are sharing with the public. That gives the 6mm with its best loading a 117 fps advantage over the 243 with its fastest load.

They are both great rounds that deserve to be as popular as they are!

I like the blue, but then again I like the weird stuff. It just looks KOOL if you pardon the punt.

And I agree with you the 6mm is a great cartridge. It is king of the 6mm non- magnums.
