Hi guys, found a box of 85 grain solid base boat tails the other day. I have had good luck with these bullets in heavier weights/calibers, and I have a stash of 100 grainers in 6mm that I plan to start working with in my 240wby. Question is where do the 85 grainers rate for toughness? I've had good success with sierra 85 gr hpbts on antelope and smaller with the 243 win, thinking 90-100 grainers might be more apropriate for the bigger 240 case. Anybody used the 85 gr solid base boat tail? what are your thoughts for best application for it? Thanks, Chris

No idea Tobey, but I had good results with the Sierra 85 HPBT myself in the 243, although, your WBY takes bullet action into a whole nother arena...

I agree, bullets that hunt well in the 243 might turn into varmint grenades in the 240...I guess I was trying to determine whether the 85 grain solid base was designed as a varmint bullet or a general purpose hunting pill like the sierra hpbt or speer 85 bt, I suspect it would do for the same...

I think Guy has had some eperience with the Solid Base bullets in 6mm if memory serves, hopefully he sees this soon.

Yes, but I don't think I've ever shot deer with the 85 gr Solid Base.

My son and I have used the 85 gr Partition, the 95 gr Ballistic Tip (our favorite!) and the 100 gr Partitions & 100 gr Solid Base bullets on deer... But I don't think we've ever used the 85 gr Solid Base bullet, maybe not at all.

Sorry...

Guy
