7.5x55 Swiss

WOW! No one has any appreciable experience with this cartridge?!?
Guess I will be the first after I get my "new" old toy!

I have never even seen one in real life maybe you can tell us more of what you know. From my days as a hunting guide I ended up being friends with a fellow from Switzerland he had a military background so I bet he would know all about it.

I haven't used the round for hunting but I have reloaded it without issue. I used some Siesra 168 Matchkings to make some practice/play rounds. I don't recall the exact load but I think it was with Varget.

whatever you hunt with a 308 or 30-06, you can hunt with a 7.5 x 55

Blaser makes a very nice hunting rifle in this caliber

I have a friend that uses the caliber and I dont remember any negatives being mentioned.

I know that in Switzerland it is used a lot, but not quite sure exactly what it is they hunt there.
I ordered a Swiss K31, and I know they are exceptionally accurate, and I'm crazy enough to use it for hunting. I have reloading dies for it, and will work up some loads for it, from the help of my good friend Fotis.
I love the old military rifles that are tack drivers. I used to hunt with an old Swedish m96 rifle in 6.5x55, and could hit anything within 300 meters, with open sights.
What I love about the old military rifles is they aren't super high pressure rounds, but they work extremely well!
Now, with the K31, it achieves .308 to .30-06 velocities without high pressures. I LOVE EFFICIENCY!
Gotta be the 55mm length cases that makes them extremely efficient out of proportion to pressure.
In the future, I would love to get a Blaser rifle, with the interchangeable barrels, and have them chambered to.......................6.5x55, and, gasp! The 7.5x55!
I can't wait to see what it can do on antelope, deer, elk, and maybe even moose.

They hunt Ibex and Chamois in Switzerland, but the 7.5 x 55 I speak of hunted Moose in Sweden and Red Stag and Boar in Germany. The 6.5 x 55 you speak of are used a lot in Sweden from Moose to Capercaillie, very nice caliber. I believe you will be very happy with your new accusation. Enjoy

Deerslayer0822, where did you find your K31 ?

Have you, or anybody here hunted those birds, the capercaillie ?

No, but I worked up loads (260 Rem w FMJ Lapua bullets) for a lawyer who was headed for Scandinavia to hunt capercaillie. His hunt was successful, so I must have made some good loads.

I found my K31 through AIM Surplus. For a total of $300, I couldn't pass it up.
Finally got it today, and cleaned the action, and barrel! It's like a Swiss watch. Precision and smooth working.
Bore is pristine! Beautiful mirror shine, all the way to the muzzle! Plus, it has a recessed crown, and perfect.
The Beech stock is beat up, but that's to be expected.
Overall, very pleased!
I will look later to see if the person who had it left any identification under the butt plate.

Just for poops and giggles, what's the MAX CUP a K31 can be reloaded to?
I know 55114 psi is Max, but what does that translate to in Copper Units of Pressure?
I also read that the K31 could handle 65000 psi. Is this true?

I ordered a box of Prvi Partisan 7.5x55 2 days ago.
Anyone have any experiencewith tthis ammo?
How well does it group?

Took the butt plate off, and found the identification paper!
Last person to have my rifle, Jean Ph. Rebaux, from Bevaix, Switzerland. He was born in 1938, and I think a corporal of DCA 8. My rifle stock said it was made in 1949.

As stated for hunting it is a .308 equivalent. I haven't reloaded for any of mine but have one set up for hunting and used it one year for deer. I tried Hornady SP factory ammo and it groups as well as the GP-11. Haven't shot it enough to get enough reloadable brass to start rolling my own. Reportedly the Prvi hunting ammo is decent stuff although I haven't used it myself. Check swissrifles.com for all the info you would ever want on these rifles. Many have contacted the original holders using the butt tag info.

I'm ecstatic that it is in the .308 and .30-06 class!
Got my Prvi 174 gr. SP ammo today! I'm stoked! I ordered FMJ's yesterday, so will have 40 rounds to shoot very soon!
Found a Jean Philippe Ribaux in Bevaix, Switzerland. Have an address, may just decide to write to him.
Can't wait to get primers, and powder now to reload!

Upon further inspection of the Prvi brass, I did notice that the cases are anealed. Now, it makes me wonder if they have military contracts to supply 7.5x55 ammo? Who right now uses the GP11 as their military round? Anyone?

Interesting....I picked up an empty box out of the trash can at the range about a week before you started this post. The box was empty....so some one else is shooting it in my neck of the woods. CL

I know it's becoming more popular now because ammo is more readily available from Prvi Partizan,Grafs & Sons, and Hornady manufacturing new ammo for it, along with brand new brass being made for rreloading.
It helps that it's a .30 cal round too, so there isn'ta lack of bullet weights for it.
