We are having a hard time getting my uncles 7RUM to group with the 168gr AccuBond long range

We tried retumbo with different charge and different OAL 3.600 and longer.
We also tried imr7828.
It alway groups in 1.5-2''

I noticed that when i've found an accurate load for my 300rum it will also be accurate with my
3 other friends 300 ultra.

So i was wondering if ome of you have found an accurate load i can try with those bullets in this caliber?

I don't load for a 7 RUM, but a couple observations…

I've heard several say the ABLR need quite a jump. You may want to try all the way back to 3.57" OAL.

Next, I shoot 168 grain bullets. But if I had the horsepower of a 7mm RUM, I'd be looking at the 175 ABLR, or the 180 Berger VLD. At that weight, those two bullets are some of the best for any caliber. The Ballistic Coefficient of those heavier bullets is a lasting attribute, the higher velocity of the 168's will fade at longer ranges.

Ok, gotcha. The 168 is no slouch. I do believe they are very sensitive to seatng depth. Might also try the 160 AccuBond. They still have a 0.55 BC!

I have had great success loading the 7 RUM with the 160 gr AB and 93.0-94.0 grs of Retumbo.
As for the 168 gr ABLR, I would look at H1000, US 869 and RL25. Not sure about RL33, but maybe someone can run it with QL to be sure.
I loaded it in the 280AI and found Utopia with IMR7828SSC. The 168 gr ABLR is an accurate bullet!

That is a sho 'nuff fine load with a good rifleman pulling the trigger, Jim. Always appreciate the pictures.

Great shooting Jim.

Seems like a little extra jump wouldn't hurt the ABLRs.

My Rem 700 RUM likes the 168gr NABLR with 91 gr RL 25 Fed 215 primers RP cases. OAL 3.63 Very accurate out to 925 yds. 3355 fps. It shoots sub MOA. I have a new 7 RUM I just got and I havn't tried it yet. It's a Savage 110.
That's a very hot load. Work your way up to it if you want.
Good Luck
Greg

we just tried 3.570'' with 83 gr IMR7828. and retried 3.630''
3.570 gave a 1.25'' 4 shot
3.630'' gave 3''

it looks like it likes a bigger jump. how far can we go shortening the OAL??

how do i know it's too deep?
the pressure begins to rise?

I wouldn't worry too much about PSI's. I also wouldn't sweat about the depth till your seating past the ogive.

A quarter turn in on the seating plunger of your seating die will be approx. .005".
Try loading 3 each and shoot them. You should be able to shrink your 1.25" group.
