Go to the range today, winds blowing 24 mph. Just wanted to see where my cold/clean bore shot went. It is the shot all by itself low on the target. Shot that and went and looked and walked back shot two more. Walked the 100 yards back look and see those two were almost touching right were I was aiming. So I walk back and load and shoot three more and wow, .594' 5 shot group with my Savage 111 7mag with 160 AccuBond (2nds) with 66 grains of RL22, Winchester brass and GM215M primers. I think I like this load.

That should be a sticky. Loads that just work!

The 160gr bullet and 65-66gr's of RL22 always seem to be a deadly combo. Great shooting. Scotty

Do tell.... I'd agree - you've got all the 7mm mag load you'll likely ever need. Good velocity, great accuracy and a great bullet. Now, go hunt that bad boy!

One of these days I'm actually gonna shoot my Savage and Interarms Mk. X 7mms, and I think I might need to try that load!

That load was thanks to Pop. This is the same load I shot my spike elk last year with, just been playing with it more lately. I did not do much of that last year. Last week I had to shot about 9 round before it settle down. I cleaned it better this week and well..... Thanks for the replies.

Corey,

You'll never NEED another rifle or load for anything in the continental 48 states.

Now if you are like the rest of us, RADD will kick in and you'll WANT something else.
(RADD is incurable by the way  )

Good shooting sir.

She's a keeper for sure.

Howard

Corey,

Nicely done!
BTW, you missed the quarter.

I have NEVER hit the darn quarter. Moving to a half dollar for future use! Scotty

Always hunt on a fouled bore. That first shot from a clean bore never goes to the same POI as those from a fouled bore. I clean my rifles after hunting season and foul the bore before season starts and never touch the bore unless I hunt in rain or snow. Then I clean the bore just in case of moisture but always fire a shot to foul the bore before hunting.

I once had a Rem 700 SS in 7mm Rem mag that would shoot almost any bullet make and weight with a case full of AA3100 in groups like that. Problem was I was hunting 100 to 160 lb on average white tail deer with it and no matter which bullet you used unless you hit the CNS on one that was inside 200 yards you had some tracking to do. Beyond 200 yards I guess the bullet had slowed down some and became a real drop them in their tracks killer for some reason. I hunted in the crop fields of east NC where if a deer got out of the field you were in swamp of jungle so thick you had to step on a deer to find it. I told people that I could not carry enough flashlight batteries to hunt with that 7 mag. I like to find them laying where they were standing when I shoot them. Switched to 25-06 and 264 Win mag and NO MORE TRACKING.

As far as the accuracy goes looks like you have a keeper in that 7 mag.

One of these days I'll post a picture of this rifle and you can see how ugly it is. Beretzs I like the idea of shooting at a half dollar, I might have a chance then.

Corey

Do they still make half dollars? I haven't seen one (either in the States or in Canada) for many years. The last I remember is the Kennedy half-dollar. I shoot at loonies and toonies (Canadian one dollar and two dollar coins). Corey, ugly is as ugly does, and you don't have an ugly rifle in that one.

I have a couple of special half dollars set aside for marking targets. I will have to break them out during the next range trip! Scotty

Very true, it nothing pretty to look at but, in my eyes, it is a hunting tool that shoots really well and I'm less concerned about scratching the finish on it.

Corey

I try to tell myself that, but I would sleep with them if my wife allowed them in the same bed as us! I don't mind using them, but they still get plenty of love! Scotty

Hey Corey....lookin' t that "cluster" has me looking through all these box's seeing if I missed a bag or two...!!! Great shooting I might add and now just think how many of those AB's you got.....I remember when we met..you were talking about that load of 66g RL22 in your rifle....again Grreat shooting my friend!! You know I'm happy for you!
Ray

GRT338, thanks. I for sure will not run out of bullets for a while. I need to buy another 8lb jug of RL22 and find those blasted primers that are never on the shelves I won't have any worries for a long time.

Corey

That is a beautiful group and great load. Its now time to shoot field positions and get ready to go hunting.
