7mm 08 140 Accubond trying to get to 2900fps

I dont know for sure, but I dont recall seeing any 7mm-08 140gr load over about 2850.

I get 2935fps with 139gr SSTs using Vv N550 in a M700 Mountain Rifle with a 22" tube.

I am going to switch back to Nosler 140s. I switched to the SSTs because of price, but do not get the accuracy of Ballistic Tips.

I am using 46.5grs of Vv N550, this is warm so you better back off to about 42grs to start.

I got 2900+ in my Savage 7mm-08 with 140 AccuBond and H 414. Didn't like the recoil as it is my 12 yr old sons deer rifle, so I backed off .

I have no 7-08, but have loaded my 22" barrelled Mountain Rifle 7x57 to 2955 with the 140 AB and a good dose of Norma 205 [MRP]. Loads run to .7moa at 100m and brass looks great. Please do not use this load without backing off at least 4 grains and working up carefully, you 7x57 owners! The 7-08 "should" be capable of similar velocities. Eagleye.

Where did you get a Mountain Rifle in 7X57?

49 grains of W760 was good for 2948 from my 22" 7-08 with 140 partitions.

wildcat junkie; When Remington first brought out the Mountain Rifle, they chambered a short run of them in 7x57. These all had wood stocks and hinged floorplates. I was fortunate enough to find an unfired one in an Alberta gunstore, and believe me, I was all over it like flies on s***!! :shock:
I would not give up this one for anything. It is a beautiful packer and an excellent shooter, to boot. I have had at least 20 individuals offer to buy it from me. Isn't going to happen! Regards, Eagleye.

5 shot avg. of 2984 today out of my custom 7mm08 on a broughton 9 twist 5 groove canted land with 140 accubonds behind 47 gr of h-414. built but Bruce Broughton on a Tim North made Broughton barrel. 24 inches Remington 700 action. no pressure signs .030 off the lands oal 2.82

im doing it with the 5 groove canted land barrel and 47 gr of H-414 with no indication of pressure. had one shot go 3034 out of a 10 shot group???? wrote that one off as a fluke as most are stayin consistent give or take 10fps

I echo Jon A's response using W760 - I have a 24" Rem SPSS factory 7-08 that gives me 2990-3005 fps depending on temperature with 140 gr Accubonds using Speer reloading manuals max load for both 130 gr and 145 gr bullets. The AccuBond is also my most accurate load for this gun, so you should have no problems getting 2900 from a 22" barrel with this load. Great caliber selection by the way, and once you try this combination out on game, you won't be disappointed.

Wow I can not believe it has been so long since I have been here. I drew a very coveted tag in Idaho for Unit 11. I have been putting in for 7 years and finally I have drawn the tag I want to use this rifle for Big Muleys in Hells Canyon and the Salmon River very rugged country. This why I bought this light weight Rem 700 Titanium 7mm 08 back in 2003 new $749....does anyone have any new data??? I will be using 140gr accubonds...thanks Chad

I would try RL19, should get you close to 2900 fps withthe 140 gr AB.
That will make for a nice rifle/load combo.

Not sure why you need new data unless the already listed powders aren't giving you the accuracy you desire. Since my reply of a year and a half ago, I have purchased my wife a 22" Remington Mtn Guide in 7-08 - really a LSS with a Ti stock. That gun is getting 2920 +/- 10 fps using the W-760 load previously listed with 140 gr Accubonds using a magnum primer. That load is very close to what a similarly barrelled 270 will do and should meet your needs. The 7-08 really doesn't get enough credit as a flat shooting gun. But comparing it to the 270, which everyone believes to be a flat shooter, there can be very little difference if loaded to achieve that.

I also use 49 gr of W-760, Federal 215M primer, and 140 AB. I get 2950 fps out of my 22" BDL, with groups in the 0.5 to 0.75 inch range. The SD of the last group I fired was 3 fps.

I was a bit concerned that most other manuals stop at 46-47 grains of W-760. There are no physical signs of excess pressure and the chronograph data indicates the same(progressive increase in velocity and low SD). This is the maximum load listed in the Speer manual. Ken Waters says that the factory 140 gr load was(is) 48-48.5 grains of a non canister grade W-760. He lists 48.5 gr as near maximum and 49 gr as maximum.

I've gone through three major load development cycles with my 7mm-08 over the years and I've always settled on W-760.

I had no luck with RL19. It was a good 200 fps down from most other powders I tried. I think it is just too slow for a 22" barrel (Nosler's data is from a 26" barrel).

For anything 140 gr or above, W-760 works best in my 7-08(s). For the lighter loads, I get better velocity and excellent accuracy with both Varget and RL-15. Especially RL-15.
