Looking for load recommendations for a 7mm08, 140 or 150 grain bullets for elk hunting. Good temp stable powder .

Can't go wrong with a Partition or AccuBond in either of those weights and propel it with Varget or H4350 for temp stability. H380 is typically quite accurate in 7-08 also but not 'Extreme' series powder.

Let your gun decide which weight of bullet and which powder it prefers!!

I use RL17 and haven't found any detractors from it. If you want stable I'd look at the H4895 for being stable I guess. 17 will probably get you more speed, but H4895 will get you enough as well.

140 Partition/AccuBond or 150 Partition around 2700-2850 will work I'd think. Good luck with it. Doesn't seem like many of the 7-08's around here have trouble making little bitty groups.

140 AB with 42.5gr Varget, or 150 BT with 40.5gr RL-15. Whichever shoots best in your rifle.

140 AccuBond, 47.5 gr Big Game (2850 fps mv) WLRM, 225 yards, one shot, went 90 feet, tipped over.

Same load but substitute 140 Partition for AccuBond, all else same, 346 yards, one shot, went straight down.

Same 140 Partition load, not much of a test at 68 yards, he went 3 feet.

The above load is all I use, deer elk antelope bear.

I've found RL-15 to work very well w/the 140's, and H414 for the 160 NAB in the past. But maybe like what Scotty said try RL-17, you may get more speed out of it? Whether or not the accuracy is there..... is well for you to decide?

Pretty sure I've said this before, but one of the privileges of my advanced years is I get to repeat myself. (Ask DrMike!). I shot a true 7mm/ought SIX for years and used it successfully on elk. Many elk. Then I got a chronograph and tested my standard load - 2795 average w/139 Hornady. Or, you might say, pretty much a hair slower than Nosler's 140 gr. 7mm-08 loads out of their 26" barrel. I never felt handicapped. I think if you get a load with 140's and it's close to 2800 fps and accurate, you need to go find an elk!
