I am currently dialing in to a 120gr load with my Winchester model 70 featherweight. Looking pretty good at 46gr of Varget. A recent thread here has me wondering what might possible with a 140gr E-tip and RL16? I just measured my case capacity at 60gr of H20 which is WAY over what I've seen for other 7mm-08s? It's normal fire formed winchester brass.I tried up to 50gr of RL16 with 120gr TTsx and I just couldn't stuff enough powder in to get the velocity I was after. It did raise the question in my mond about what it would do with a 140gr or 160 gr bullet. Appreciate the help if you are in the mood! Thanks---Phil

desertcj,

Straight up this is just My experience with RL-19 and a 7-08. Don't waste the time, nor money. I'm shooting a Ruger M77 boat paddle. The books told me I might expect 2875+, maybe even closer to 2900, with a 140 bullet.

At a Max charge, by Nosler book, I didn't even break 2700 fps and I had to do a lot of tinkering just to get that much into the case.

I'm going to stay with either Varget, or RL-15, and not look back. Never going to chase the 'Speed Train' again. I've got a RL-15/150 load at 2650, Varget/140 @ 2760, and a RL-15/120 @ 2900. All are sub 1 MOA.

Good enough !!

Interesting. I am dialing in a load for a 120gr TTSX with 46gr of Varget for 3050fps. It looks possible to be at the same velocity with a 140gr with RL16 and that's cooking from a 7mm-08!

Don't be afraid to try Ramshot Big Game with the 120. About 50 grains should see around 3,000 fps.
Big Game also works well with the 140 grain bullet.

140 AccuBond, 47.5 gr Big Game, WLRM primer, 2850 fps, big 5x5 bull, one shot at 225.

Same load, 303 yards, antelope herd buck, one shot.

140 Partition, same load, 2874 fps, 4x4 bull, one shot at 68.

Same load, spike bull, 346 yards, one shot.

Same load, big fork mulie, 541 yards, one shot.

Big Game with WLRM is the bee's knees. There's more but you get the idea.

Max load according to Nosler, so work up.
