I mean the "set up my girlfriend with a rifle" part. Is she worth it? [emoji1]
I don't think you could rent one for here to use :?:   Maybe buy one for yourself and let her use it knowing it is on loan.

Boy I couldn't resist that one.

I have two Winchester Model 70 in 7mm-08. One is a classic compact out of New Haven and the other it a new Featherweight one out of SC. I love both of them. I have been carrying the compact almost exclusivity for three years now. I was planning on my son using it this year, but he decided to use my 243 compact instead. I personally like Featherweights, I think the are just classy looking guns, but I don't think you could go wrong with either.

duh- been trying to remember .... Craig Boddington went with his daughter to Africa. As I recall the article, she shot some of those big "elk size" antelope (Kudu maybe?) with a 7mm-08. Pretty good endorsement if you ask me. CL

I love my 7mm-08. I have a Remington 700 VLS with a 26" heavy barrel. It absolutely loves 150 gr Nosler BT and H414 powder.

What kind of speeds are you fellas getting with your 140 gr and 150 gr loads?

22" Hart barreled Wby/Vanguard 7-08 all velocities were taken in average 70+/- temps.

140 NBT 41.5 RL-15 F210M Federal Brass @ 2.850-2.8550" COAL 2880 FPS @ 20'
140 SPH 42.0 RL-15 BR2 Winchester Brass @ 2.2700" CBTO 2865 FPS @ 20'
160 NAB 45.0 H414 F210M Winchester Brass @ 2.2735" CBTO 2725 FPS @ 20'

26" Remington VLS:

150 gr Nosler BT 44.0gr H414 is giving me 2650 avg. That's is my most accurate load.

Jim I get an easy 2950 with 140's outta the 7x57 and 2890 or so with 150's. Both using RL17. The 7-08 should run real close.

Impressive speeds Scotty. That's 280 Rem performance.

I bought my 30 year old daughter a 7-08 last year, Howa 1500, 20" barrel. It shoots lights out, averaging around 3/4" groups with a 140 gr NBT. I chrono'd a few factory loads and came up with around 2700 fps so that is the velocity I stuck with. My handload:

42.8 grs IMR 4895, 2.840", cci 200, RP cases, 2700 fps

RL17 works really well from what I can see in the 7-08 and 7x57. H4350 seems real good along with Ramshot Hunter as well. A few of those powders when loaded to 60K PSI will make those cartridges sing.

You from Nigeria?

I know a man is allowed 4 wives there so I'm wondering. You are lucky your wife doesn't mind the girlfriend and fiance.

Which one will give you a child first?

Ah lad, I was about to ask your secret. [emoji6]
I'll just have to be content with one I guess. Last time I ask her if I could have a girlfriend I woke up in ICU. [emoji2]
All in jest folks, all in jest.

Edit to add: In college I had a Nigerian roommate that had two wives and wanted four.

This is the caliber and bullet I was thinking about getting for the wife to use.

It would be a great cartridge for your lady. Those whom I know using the cartridge manage quite nicely to tag out each year. More than adequate for moose, elk, deer, caribou, sheep, goat and black bear.

I have a Ruger Hawkeye in 7-08 that really shoots the 140 ABs and BTs quite well. I put a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 on it. I'm pretty happy with it.
