I've had two 7mm STWs that were very finicky when it came to loads. Does anyone who has or had a 7mm/300 Weatherby have any favored handloads? Was it any easier to find good loads for it over, say, a 7mm STW?

Nothing here Jim. I run a 7mm Mashburn Super Mag. If you have the chance, give it a look. Doesn't give up much to those Peter ones at all.

I shot a 7mm/300WBY for 14 years. My favorite load was a strong charge of R22 under a 160 gr AccuBond. Today I have a 7 STW that shoots the exact same bullet and powder combo at 3300fps. and is very accurate out to 600 yds. Maybe I am just lucky but my 7 STW is not picky and seems to shoot several different loads well. RJR

I sold my STW and have been very happy "without" it!
My most accurate loads were with the 160gr Barnes TSX, the 180 Berger VLD, and the 162 gr Hornady BTSP, using a max load of H-1000.

Hey Elkman, just "why" were you happy w/o it? I had a 7mm RUM that was "much" easier to work with than the 2 7mm STWs I mentioned. Also, I have never had a problem getting either the 300 WM nor the 300 RUM to shoot well with either the 180 or 200 NP & AB. Is it just a an intermediate problem with the 7mm and the full length .375 case you think? I have access to a 7mm/300W to play with so was just wondering what issues anyone had with it?

When I first bought it in the 80's it shot fine. After a while the accuracy degraded. A new barrel helped but it never met my expectations, another forum member own's it now. He seems happy with it. I know I am happier without it. All of my primary shooters, will consistently shoot 1/2 moa, if not I don't own them.

I am holding off on playing with the 7mm/300W right now, I have to wring out a new 7mm Rem Mag, a 6.5 Creedmoor, a 338 Fed and a Sako 30-06. Whew, looking forward to it! :)
