7mm wsm finished!

I do like the 7mm WSM. It is a great cartridge. We'll all look forward to hearing how she shoots. Give us a side shot of the rifle.

The loads that I am using right now are the 168 grain berger match target vld, with 69 grains of H1000, the load is going 2957 fps at muzzle and the group size at 100 yards is .408 inches (3 shots). For some reason I have never been able to achieve speeds over 3000 fps even with 139 grain bullets. But the accuracy is always there.

Of the short magnums, the 7mm is my favourite. I have found it to be very accurate. While not as popular as other WSMs, it works well for me. My hunting load is 160 grain AB over 69 grains of MagPro. That may change this year as I recently had a load with a 160 PT and 65.5 grains of IMR 7828 that gave me 0.30 inch groups. I think that would work quite well.

The AB grouping in my rifle is good also, giving me 0.5 inch groups. My rifle has not been fussy. It is producing good groups with a variety of bullets. However, because I anticipate at any time encountering moose, elk and/or bear, I want a tough bullet that will hold up to the velocity challenge if the shot is close. 'Tis a great cartridge, and I'll be looking forward to more reports on your tests as you work with it.

I can't see any of the images? Either way, glad you have your 7WSM up and running. Sounds like it is very accurate. I have a 270WSM and would love to add a 7WSM to my safe. It was a toss up when I got my 270WSM, which rifle I was going to get. I love my 270, but I like the 7WSM also also. Very powerful cartridge, and would be a nice mountain rifle for carrying. Wished Winchester would chamber their FWT's in them again. Scotty

Scotty,

I fear that the 7mm WSM will be a cartridge known only to rifle cranks, whereas the 270 WSM will survive and thrive in the greater world of shooters. 'Tis a pity, but c'est la vie. It is a great cartridge, giving good performance on game at long ranges when called for.

Sorry about that, I still haven't mastered posting the pictures yet. I have followed the instructions but it still doesn't seem to work for me.

Looks nice! You have some accurate loads too. Don't worry about the velocity, accuracy kills.
