ANybody here have any data for anything with the 7mm WSM???

I just picked up a WInchester shadow, the cheap plastic nike lookin stock one, with a RCBS neck sizer, RCBS FL sizer die set, about 75 rounds of W-W brass, (15) 120g NBT's, (15) 150g Sciroccos, bag of (50) 175g NP (factory 2nds), full box of 160g NP, and a big 50 round MTM case guard all for $200...

He said the rifle shot the best with 120g NBT's...That might make my decision a little easier on what bullet to use as this gun is going to be a truck rifle for varmint/coyotes/ and the occasional mule deer I suppose. The 120g NBT @3400fps looks interesting..I need to get the trigger worked down to about 2.5#, get to loading some shells, and wait for the wind to die down and head to the range..For now, I"m going to slap a Leupold vari x 2, 3-9x40 on it in leupolds rifleman base/rings...

Remman,

Looks like you got yourself a good deal.
That 120 gr BT is one tough little bullet and will work on deer as well.
Let us know how she shoots.

Exceptional deal! I would consider going with something more robust in construction for deer, as the BT is designed for velocities below 3000, which means your shots would all have to be out a ways before you reach that level of velocity. Perhaps an AccuBond?

As far as 7WSM, Nosler offers some data here:

http://nosler.com/index.php?p=15&b=7mm&s=82

That is the 140gr data, but if you scoll down, at the bottom of the left hand column is a list of other bullets they have data for. I couldn't get anything to come up for the 120BT.

That 7WSM is probably the best, ballistically, of all the short-fats from all mainstream sources. I am looking for one as well, although I have just about decided that I will save up for a semi-custom gun that I have 'built' in my head. You should be able to exceed 7RemMag levels with that gun, and possibly achieve 7Wby levels. Approach with caution.

As for load manuals, check out the new Hornady #7, as well as the Lyman #48. Most of the powder manufacturers also show data. Check their various websites.

Well it looks like I should be able to get 3200fps w/140g bullets, so thats probly the route I'm gonna go...It will be better for LR shots anyways vs the lighter 120g. However, with the scope thats on it now (Leupold 3-9,) 500 yards will be a long poke. I"m gonna have to use the bottom duplex for a reference (zero) point, probly 400 yards or so..I need to send the scope to Leupold and have them put target knobs on it, then I can start playing out to 800 yards like my other rifles...

I'm thinking about 140g NBT's as my 7 RM shoots that bullet exceptionally well. If the WSM shoots them well, I can just stock up!! I dont know though, NBT's are getting kinda expensive, I might just stick a 140g SBT through it and see how it does...I've never had any problems with Sierra bullets, they just dont have the BC and plastic tip like Nosler. No problems with accuracy or on game perofrmance though, and there about $5-10 cheaper per 100...

I'm in the middle of moving, so I dont know when I'll get to loading and shooting some rounds down it. It'll probly have to wait a month or so. Dang it anyways, I'm real interested in seeing how it does both accuracy and velocity wise. It has a 24" tube, so I should be able to get the same velcoitys as my 7 RM. I'm not counting on it being as accurate though. For some reason I've always wanted a 7 WSM. I figured this was a heck of a deal and to good to pass up, plus it was in the caliber I've wanted for a long time. I cant really justify owning it as I have a 25-06 and 7 RM already, but theres just somethign about the 7 WSM thats intrigued me from day 1.

The rifle isn't the best, I realize that, but it should meet my accuracy requirement of 3/4" at 100 yards with trigger job and handloads...If it dont, it will probly be for sale...

My dad had the same rifle, but in a 270 WSM and after trigger job and reloads, it loved 140g SST's w/MAGPRO at 3200fps. If I can get somethign like that out of mine, I'll be more then happy, and for $200, its a steal of a deal...

Remman,

If you ever decide to sell or trade it off, you might be able to pick up a M700 donar action for a project gun.
The 140 gr BT is one great bullet for both accuracy and performance.

I tell you what, if you decide to sell it, give me a holler, I might be interested.

Hey remmy!

I am in Athens Greece right now and I do not hava access to my Quickload or data. I do remember that I got good results with 160 AB's with RL 25 and RL 22....I think......not sure so start low..........68 and 66 for the RL 22. Close to 3100 fps. Another load with rl22 gave me 3160 fps with the 150 Nosler Partition.

I went and shot the 7 WSM this morning, tried a few loads with 140g NBT, RL-19, w-w case, Fed 215, 2.9"

I loaded 3 each at 67g, 68g, and 69g. Just trying to get an idea what accuracy/velocity I was looking at. I wanted to use up the little RL-19 I had, I figured it looks to be a good powder for the WSM case...

67g shot the best giving .916" w/no flyers.. Velocity read 3295, 3300, 3305fps over my Chrony... I think this load will be acceptable as there were no fliers and velocity was nice and consistent...More testing later, I"m out of RL-19...

68g didn't shoot to bad either, it put 2 touching and ended up being .966" Average velocity was 3340fps...

Not to bad for a $200 gun, totally stock (including 10lb trigger) and throwing some loads together, IMO...I think it will meet or beat my accuracy expectations of 3/4" at 100 yards with just a little more playing around...

69g produced a 1.276" group, putting the 1st and 2nd shot within 1/2", but the 3rd opened it up. Velocity read 3370, 3377, 3365 over my Chrony, so it shows promise as a consistent load, might play with seating depth a tad...

All in all, I think It will turn out OK for a $200 rifle...I need to get the trigger worked down to about 2.5# and fine tune the 140's a bit, then it'll be up and ready to smack some yotes!!

Looks good Remmy. I basically have the exact same gun except for mine is a 270WSM. FWIW, my best groupings came with a COL of 2.875". Experimented with longer COLs, but the groups only opened up. I'm shooting a 140AB using RL-19.

Whats your accuracy/velocity like with your rifle???

I'm very surprised to see the velocity so high. Not that its a bad thing :) Cases showed no signs of high pressure, but I know that pushing 3400fps with a 140g is getting into WARM territory...

Heck, the 7 WSM w/140's is faster then my 7 RM w/140's..Its shooting 3250-3275fps with 68.5g RL-22

I"m going to have to experiemnt with seating depth. It doesn't look to be to picky concerning powder weight as all the loads were pretty good velocity wise.

I don't have pics of the load developement target, but I do remember being able to cover the three shots with a penny. My load is 61.5gn of RL-19, 215M primer, 140AB - COL 2.875". An 8-shot average velocity was 3018fps. The target range was 100M.

Remmy, I would think that if you bed that soft stock & put a few more rounds down the tube, it will shoot pretty good.
