Got out today to try Grand with 175 Partition in 7mm Rem Mag. Ran out six rounds to look at velocity and pressure signs. Hodgdon shows 72.2 gr as max at 3024 fps.

Rifle Mod 70 Win 26"barrel
Winchester brass
CCI 250 primer
3.342 OAL

71.0 2965 fps
71.3 2980 fps
71.6 3022 fps
71.9 3060 fps
72.2 3055 fps
72.5 3062 fps

The entire group was around 2". The last three were a tad over 1/2". There were no pressure signs so I'm not convinced that the 72.2 is a max load. There may be a sweet spot right around it though.

#### I have a typo in the first paragraph, Hodgdons data show max load 72.2 gr for 2940 fps.

How much case capacity do you have left @72.2 ?

That’s hauling bass Bruce! God, if you could make it shoot around 3k that’s pretty danged cool. I need to try some of that stuff.

I sure wish the Ramshot Grand profile was available in quick load. I'd like to see the pressure estimates on these loads.

Ramshot Grand and Ramshot Magnum seem to have the same burn rate. That might be a good place to start.

maybe a call , or e,mail to Ramshot . I kind of remember reading that GRAND , and MAGNUM were the same powders . the difference being , GRAND is supposedly temp stable .

************** I could be wrong on this . sometimes my rememberer doesn't remember to good . ******************

this might be what I was remembering .

Thanks for that info! Sending a 175 downrange accurately at 3,000 fps from a 7mm Rem mag is terrific. My ancient H870 load was over 2900 fps, but that was long ago and H870 had drawbacks.

I bought 8 pounds of Grand recently and have seen good results so far in the 25-06, am at 3350 fps with a 100 gr Barnes from a 24" Remington barrel. Good accuracy too.

I think that Ramshot Grand is going to prove to be a very good powder for "overbore" type cartridges.

A 115 Partition in my 25-06 is my next project with grand.

Ramshot Grand seems to be a great powder.
I'm liking it in the 6.5 Wby RPM and plan on trying it in a few other cartridges. It should really shine in the 7mm Rem Mag.

I've got a mess of those I bought from SPS years ago and haven't made sufficient use of them yet...

Based on what the 115's have done with Retumbo, am thinking Grand should get them to 3200 ish...

Guy
Guy,
3200 ish is crowding into 25 RPM/ 257 Wby territory. That's impressive performance.
I'd wager a bet that Grand will get you there.

GOODNESS! Is there anything you couldnt hunt with a 175 Gr. Partition at 3000 FPS????. Seriously- what wouldn't you try with that?

Keep talkin' - numbers like that keep me from spending money on a 25 RPM or Creed. An accurate rifle in any .25 would be fun but.... If I was young and starting out maybe. But back then then I couldn't have afforded it anyway. Good old 25-06...CL

I've been playing a little bit with this powder as well and using a couple versions of AI to assist in gathering real world results. Tikka 7 rem mag, 24.3 inch barrel, Winchester brass trimmed to 2.285, Federal 215 match grade primers, 175 grain partitions. 71.2 grains Grand, OAL 3.326 to max 3.334 inches = 2964 fps-3003 fps. 71.3 grns = 2989 fps - 3014 fps. 71.4 grns = 2994fps - 3017 fps. I did not see significant gains in fps with 71.5 and 71.6 grains with OAL of 3.334 but loaded at 3.328 did get me 3020 fps. No signs of over pressure. Winchester LRM primers and CCI 250's were slightly slower all things being equal. Accuracy was good and very acceptable with all loads. I'm very satisfied with this powder and has out performed H-1000, Mag Pro, and Staball HD. Loads were tested in temps of 30 to 40 degrees.

I’ve used Grand a bit in one of my 7 WSMs and my Mashburn. Seems like a great powder so far and I was liking it enough to grab an 8lber of it after trying it. It is nice in it seems to make about the same speeds as H1000 and is less money per pound which never hurts.
