Helping a buddy. Any loads with 140 and 160 gr pills?

This is for a modern Ruger BTW.

POP, a Number 1 or a 77? I have a Number 1 that is shooting 140 grain accubonds into less than an inch with H4350. I sold another Number 1 to Iron Buck, the only load I had ever messed with was using 160 grain Speer boat tails and H 4350. I did try RL-19 but I was ending up with unburnt powder left in the barrel.

a 1A.

It should rival the 280 rem in performance right?

I set my COL at 3.065 and worked up to 48.5 grains of H4350. This gives me a velocity just shy of 2800 fps. There are no signs of pressure and I know I could go higher, but I can't complain about it's accuracy. I took it out a couple of weeks ago and shot just under 2 inches at 200 yards. Not bad considering I am using a VX-II 1-4 power. The reticle covers quite a bit of the target at that range.

If Iron Buck answers up, I believe he stayed with 160 and even higher weight bullets.

I am shooting a FN Mauser in 7X57 mm and am getting 3 shot groups just under an inch, at 100 yards. I'm shooting 140 grain Sierra Gameking SPBT's, with 47.6 grains of RL-19, at just over 2,700 FPS.

The 140 grain Nosler Partitions with the same load are shooting about an inch and a quarter. This is after 20 different loads have been tested. Hope this helps.

Some years back I loaded speer 130gr. spitzer with 46 grains of IMR4064 powderand got roughly 2821 muzzel velocity out of it.Hope this helps out.

I also have a commercial FN 7x57. This load 'kinda' splits the difference between what you asked about. I shoot 47.5gn H4350 and the 150gn Partition @ 2700fps. It shoots about an inch, sometimes a little more, most times a little less. (all caveats apply seems to be safe in my 98) I've loaded to 2825 with 50gns, but why push it? This will kill anything that I will ever hunt in Texas, including exotics. Odly enough, yhis is the only gun that I've loaded for that the PTs shoot better than the BTs capt david
