7x57 or 7x57 AI

Also to the member who thinks I should "quit cluttering up the forum with my nonsense" If I ever get a pm from you again, I will post it on the open forum, as I am not as nice or tolerant as Aleena. You may be right and perhaps everyone here agrees with you, but it will be out in the open and not hidden via pm. And for the record I dont care if someone uses a Dachshund to hunt with, it is their choice. We prefer the Boykin and will continue to use the breed.

YH,

You probably should post the individual's name in any case. What a dolt! It is a shame that such attitudes exist. I can't imagine that most of the people posting here would tolerate such attitudes for very long.

It is a pre 64 I already own. Just going to put a new barrel on it, and found another pre 64 stock which I will bed (pillar and glass). Hope to never sell it, just bored I guess.

My error, after re-reading your original post, forget my 275 H & H idea, However just so you know we do like that caliber. We had an opportunity to speak with a couple of gun builders last night and I posed the A.I question to them and they said you would probably get more for it if it was not A I d if you decide to ever sell it. However again I know you said you probably never will. We are currently in the middle of building a 7 x 64 Brenneke. My husband made a sign that says "families that build rifles together, stay together". I am pretty sure that was not the words used by of the person who first came up with the that saying.

Good info Cheyenne. That 7x64 Brenneke is a sweet cartridge, being the twin to the 280..

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your input. I was up finalizing my barrel order with my gunsmith last night (who by the way hunts with a 7x64 brenneke improved). I am a young guy who likes old stuff and told him to stamp our barrel 275 Rigby Improved so that nobody my age will know what it is. I have an odd sense of humor I guess. Thanks for the post. This is my daughters future rifle so we have time to finish it as she just turned one.

As soon as I get the persons name, he will be banned permanently.
We have a zero tolerance policy here for this kind of behavior.

My attachment to the 7x57mm Mauser was primarliy through my dad and his only CF hunting rifle. He was mostly a bird hunter (grouse) and owned several shotguns. Except for hunting moose, he never was much of a rifle hunter probably as a reult of the low numbers of deer and lack of moose hunting in Maine where he and I grew up. Hunting in Maine has improved, thankfully, from those lean days.

He really did like moose hunting and bought an Erfurt Mauser commercial rifle to use for moose hunting in Quebec. It was fully stocked Mannlicher style with a 21 inch barrel and a butter knife bolt handle, chambered for 7x57mm Mauser in an Erfurt action. Living in Montreal gave him the opportunity to hunt moose in northen Quebec fairly regularly. He did not shoot many moose but did shoot a few and was a meat hunter primarliy. He used the 175 grain Norma ammunition for everything.

A few years before my dad died, he had to have a cardiac bypass and went to Florida that winter to recuperate. Someone broke into his house in Beleoil Quebec and stole all of his guns and anything else of value. The Mauser rifle was stolen and has never been recovered. My half brother does not hunt and I would have inherited the rifle which would have been a major keepsake for me but it had been stolen.

I have owned a 6.5x55 CZ Mauser which my son has and a military (Spanish) 7x57 Mauser for awhile but never a nice 7x57mm Mauser sporter. Maybe someday?

PALOUSER, that is a SWEET idea man! That'll be really cool. The little 7x57 is just cool. Heck, I am almost thinking of going home and getting it out on the range a little.. Hopefully my boy doesn't find out I was sneaking his little Featherweight around...

A 7mm Mauser in a Pre64 is really cool. To buy an original is kinda outta my league at this point.

Palouser,

That is very cool.
Any 7mm is a good one.

I think in this era of unrelenting pressure against sport hunting and private ownership of firearms that is is very destructive and selfish, diversionary behavior for people on this forum to PM and denigrate any members of our sport, female or not. To say nothing of the impolite nature or crass behavior of running down women just for being women.

If you do not think that there is serious public pressure out there to ban sport hunting and any public shooting ranges, read some of the Liberal drivel that is written in to our local newspaper, the Bellingham Herald, or any newspaper throughout our land. These young people who provide most of the letters to the editor and feedback from the local public to our newpaper are scarily dedicated to eradication of all sport hunting and private ownership of firearms. They are also, to a person, anti-military and scoffingly out of line on their behaviors towards military persons or veterans. I read and responded to many of their derisive, scoffing and insulting letters about veteran's and Veteran's Day.

These people, who are writing these letters have thorougly brain washed by the American Public School agenda which has been drilled into their heads unceasingly, by Liberal and Socialist teachers for all of their concious lives. If you don't believe me look at who they just reelected as our first communist President! If you do not think that our Conservative and Christian church culture is being trashed by these anti-American culture Gen Y'ers, you are not paying attention closely enough.

The point that I am trying to make is, that we need to stick together or we, and our lifestyle, will be hung out to dry as individuals by these young people who do not in any way, see things as we do. So stop fighting each other, respect those few of us who still cherish traditional values and direct your energy to the real enemy which are Liberal, Socialist thinking Americans who will scuttle our way of life so fast it will make your head spin!

That had to have been quite a fit! I couldn't imagine. Sorry, don't mean to salt your wounds Dr. Mike.

If anybody is feeling sellers remorse over their long departed 7X57s, I know where there is a bit of a diamond in the rough. A local gunshop has a DWM Peru contract M93 somebody has sported. Bolt and blueing are nicely done, barrel a tidy 20" or so. You'd want to restock it and add a scope mount and low safety, but the bore looks pristine, it should shoot. They're asking $169 so it would make a neat little sporter for not much money. Frontiersman, St Louis park MN

It's certainly cheap enough. At that price you could work it up any way you wanted.

I toy with the idea of AI a 250. It was the round that Ackley said gave him the greatest percentage of improvement. That said, they can be accurate w/o and will any critter know the difference? I cant believe they would. And then there's the hypothetical, can I get it at Walmart in Cheyene at 2:00 AM when I left mine on the counter at home? I dont think you could go wrong either way, but the Ackley has a definite cool factor. CL

I am pretty sure walmart stocks 7x57 AI ammo....don't they? Just kidding. I plan on taking my 270 as a backup for just that reason! Good point.

Okay CL, what is the difference between a .250 AI and a .257 Roberts, assuming both loaded to modern SAAMI pressures?
