Does H4350 not show up? Are you hinting I should be using RL 17? By the data, maybe I should! What powders are you using in your 7 Mauser Dr. Mike?

Mea Culpa. I was asleep at the switch. Likely, I'm trying to do too many things at once. I have excellent accuracy with RL17 and with H414 (W760). With lighter bullets, I've had good success with IMR4320. I have used H4350 with the 140 grain Sierra Game King. Below maximum charge, it showed good accuracy for me. As I neared max charge, the accuracy fell off. H4350 will work, however. I can't tell you why it didn't show up on that particular list.

I just bought a box of Nosler Trophy Grade Ammo, which I assume is loaded with H414, pulled the Accubonds, saved the powder and loaded with H4350 and 140 Grain BTs. 45 grains is what I started at and had it sighted at three and the fourth shot was 1/2" off of three. Only loaded 4 shells, now I loaded more and am going to go shoot more when it quits raining!
Thanks for the info!

Dr. Mike-
I am not too familiar with QL, but I was looking at the last round of data, in quick load, it shows a usable case capacity of 44.673. Noslers book shows usable case capacity for 140 grains at 52.5? I put in 45 and there is free space and you can tell it isn't compressed. How does quick load come up with this case capacity?
Looking at the Hornady book and Hodgon's website, 45 grains of H4350 should be well below max, but quick load shows 45 grains as almost a dangerous load.
Todd

Measure your own case capacity, bullet seating depth, bullet length, case length, etc. and reduce the variable.

How does QuickLoad come up with these measurements? They are simply estimates and averages...to get more accurate data from QuickLoad....put more accurate data in.

Todd,

You gave me 52.5 grains of water, which I assumed you measured as case overfill capacity. Consequently, that is what I used as input on QL. You also gave me a cartridge length of 3.000 inches. Thus, the useable case capacity is calculated to be 44.673 grains of water. The standardized cartridge length is 3.071 inches, and the Maximum Case Capacity, overflow is 59.50 grains of water. If I use these parameters, I get the following data generated:

Cartridge : 7 x 57 mm Mauser
Bullet : .284, 140, Nosler BalTip 28140
Useable Case Capaci: 52.812 grain H2O = 3.429 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.071 inch = 78.00 mm
Barrel Length : 22.0 inch = 558.8 mm
Powder : Hodgdon H4350

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 2.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Results caused by ± 10% powder lot-to-lot burning rate variation using nominal charge
Data for burning rate increased by 10% relative to nominal value:

So the data is dependent upon your measurements. Make certain of your cartridge length and your maximum case capacity, overflow and you will get reasonably precise data. Measure maximum case capacity, overflow by measuring the weight of deoxygenated water (let an open container of water set out overnight) at STP (room temperature). Fill the case until you get a convex meniscus. That is your maximum case capacity, overflow.

Got it, great info. The more I get into reloading the more I realize how little I know! Thanks for being patient and all of your help! That makes a lot more sense and these max loads match what the Hornady book and Nosler website shows.
Thanks again!
