Gerry, you bet. I am really happy with my Model 85 Hunter, .338 Federal. It is nice to see DrMike and others start to get some traction with that cartridge as well. Mine is very accurate and easy to carry and shoot. Sako's are very well made and great rifles.

That should be perfect for the coastal jungle you hunt Charlie. It does sound like the newer Sako's feed better than some of the older models and are well made. Have you ever posted a picture of it here?

Gerry, thanks for asking. You asked and here a picture of the .338 Federal, Model 85 Sako. It has pretty wood in the buttstock on the other side. Excuse the lousy pics, they are for insurance purposes. The scope is a Kahles 3-9x42, TDS Reticle. I just bought a Leupold VX-3, 1.5-5x20, heavy reticle in order to make this my jungle rifle. It is the smallest, shortest, big power rifle that I have.

Kahles scopes always look purple in flourescent light but it jet black. President Bathouse Barry will not let us have incandescent light bulbs anymore, only he has them!

Gerry, I stole this one for $750, on clearance sale when Sako decided to not support marketing of this caliber in the US. The Model 85 now sells for3x what I paid four years ago. I am very happy with this purchase.

The Tikka T 3 also comes in 7x64 in blued steel models so that is another good option for less than half the money of a Sako.

I hate to ask but could someone run Quickload using a 150 and 160 gr Partitions? The barrel length on both the Tikka and Sako are 22.5", thanks.

Thanks a lot Scotty, I really appreciate you doing this. It does look very good, I happen to have some Magnum and IMR 7828 ssc which look very good. I used to load MRP in the 308 Norma Mag when I had one, it is an excellent powder wish I could find some locally.

What ever happened here? Did you ever buy one ? I recently sold an extra T3 I had and want to replace
It with a newer T3x and since Tikka doesnt seam to
Offer tbe 280 and I am thinking about a 7mm , I did notice
They do offer the 7x64 which I guess is almost identical ?
In the T3x Lite and wondered why that wouldnt fill the gap
Between the 6.5 and the 30/06 just fine????
What did you wind up doing?? Anyone have 1st hand experence loading the 7x64? Can brass be formed easily from 270 or 06 cases?? Anything bad or unusual ??

It's hard to believe it's been over 5 years since I started this thread, time flies. I didn't end up getting a 7x64 but I still think it is an excellent round and would love to try one sometime. I ended up with a 270 Win and am quite happy with it.

I did a lot of research on the 7x64 and 280 Rem and they have almost the exact same case capacity with the 280 having a slight edge. it was very little, something around 30 fps at most at the same chamber pressures. If you can find some good brass there is no reason not to buy a 7x64. I'm fairly sure you can form cases from something easier to find but maybe someone can confirm that for you.

The 7X64 and the .280 Rem are, for all practical purposes, ballistic twins. It would be a great cartridge to own, if only because they are not common here in NA.

I was looking for differences between the 7x64 and the 280 Rem for building a 338 Sherman which is based off of the 280 blown out and necked up to .338 with a 35* shoulder when I found that info.
I had been looking to using a 280 AI case for my 35AI for added case cap but would have had to come up with new reamer specs for that one.
