With my supply of Varget on the decline and no replacement
in sight I jumped on a jug of 8208 XBR for my .308.
I see the data listed from IMR can anyone give me the heads
up on this new powder for me ? I use 165 and 168's. Thanks in advance. Skid

I am told its very very close to the old AR2206, which was discontinued in favour of the current AR2206H which is then rebranded to H4895.

AR2206 was widely regarded as the best powder for the 308 Win bar none in this country. I reloaded my 308 for many years using this powder with bullets from 130 to 180g.

If it really is a reinvention of AR2206, you have got yourself a fine solution for your 308.

It has saved the day on several .308s for which I loaded. I got some of the tightest groups ever with IMR 8208 XBR.

DrMike
Have you tried 8280 in smaller 35 cartridges? I load the 35 rem, 358 Win, and soon the 35 Whelen. H4895 or TAC works in the smaller two, but using just one powder for all three would be nice. After that I have a 223rem(benchmark) and 221rem (h4198) and in a pinch it may work fine for them too.

Maybe one of you fine people could run QL for 168 SMK's
and 165 SGk's with 8208XBR for me. Thanks

I assume you want it for a .308 with a 22 inch barrel.

I have not tried 8208 XBR in smaller 35 cartridges. I should think it would work quite well with the 200 grain AB in the .358, however.

Returned from range today. Started load @40.0 went up .5gr to 42.5
1st node was at 40.05 2nd was at 42.0
42.0 gave a 3 shot .613 @100
No pressure signs @42.5 good primers
smooth lift. I suspect a 3rd node around 43.5
will try 43 and 43.5 next.
I am getting about 4.6% less velocity than
QL predicted. This is gonna take some time.
Temp was 45 at the range today.

It does sound as if accuracy is present. Good report to encourage you thus far.

Finished the chg wt. for 8208XBR in my .308 today.
With 168SMK's looks like 41.8 was the best accuracy
and 43.0 having good hunting velocity with MOA @ 100.
Over all its a good powder I did load duplicate Chg's @42.0
to shoot at different temps. I had a +50 fps higher reading
at 73 deg today compare to the 45 deg temp the other day
I don't know if that is temp sensitive or not ? I Think I could
get as good a load as Varget if I stay with it and the groups
would have been tighter but the club was having a BP shooting
match and the wind was up but everyone was tolerant of me
with the chrony and going downrange and back.
The 41.8 was a 4 shot group some how I load 4 ?

Does QL have a parameter for Temp ?
I don't know much about the program.

It does not. I don't know whether to think that's a good thing or a bad thing. Probably good!
