Well I tried some RL22 with the 200 tsx and shot a .597 group with a velocity of 2982. As you can see in the picture I got a pay raise from the wife, had to use a nickel this time. Shot another group at .774 with a velocity of 2949 and a 3rd at .857 with a velocity of 2917. All different powder charges.

Not quite the 7828 accuracy but I like the velocity and can live with the slight increase in group size.View attachment 8mmRL22 001.jpg

You should try RL25 next.

That will be my next powder to try. Always like RL25 and have had great luck accuracy and velocity wise.

Hopefully she won't raise you to a quarter, or worse yet, move to Canada and raise you to a loonie (Canadian dollar)! That is a fine group and good velocity. I believe it would work very well on game.

I know, every time she gives me a pay raise my group size increases and then she expects more work out of me. I'm a man not a machine. That velocity was what I was hoping to see.

Bill,

RL 22 loads look good. Reshoot 7828 at the upper end/max load and see what you get. If its not what you are looking for, try RL 25.
You are almost there.

HA! Thats great Bill! I just knew RL22 would shine. It is such a great powder for me in so many cases... That is just excellent and the speed seems to be right on par with what to expect out of the big 8! Man, another mark on the board for RL22! Great shooting. My wife doesn't even throw me nickels, I have to borrow them from my kids! Scotty

I'm already there. I can't see any reason to try and squeeze any more speed or accuracy out of what I did today with RL22. .597 @2982 is accurate and fast enough.

Yeah, that is a hunting load for sure! Man, that big 8 seems to like a bunch of different powders which is really nice. I always wondered what the 220's would do out of the 8RM. Seems like it has the case capacity in order to make those crank as well. Scotty

That load will just flat work for anything you will ever hunt in North America, and much of Africa. It is making me itchy to own an 8mm RM.

...don't know about the 8mmRM, but I went to the 220gr. Sierras as my hunting loads since .200grs didn't give me much of an advantage over a 180gr. in my .300 WSM. Whacked a couple cow elk w/ 'em last year. Pretty consistent perfomance, velocity & accuracy w/ 63 gr. RL-17 (near max/ @ 2791fps), 3.5" more drop @ 400yds compared to my .300WSM hunting load, but it's also delivering 20% more energy...

...couple of 3 shot groups, I pasted the 1st one, shot a second one...

...that said, I probably wouldn't recommend them, cause they're relatively expensive & hard to find, & you don't want to arm wrestle me over the Internet for the last box...

Very nice shooting. Groups like that I just may arm wrestle ya for em :p

If I go 220 it will be a swift 220.

Man, that 8RM would be something with those 220 Swifts! Man, what a beast of a bullet. I was always kinda surprised that Nosler didn't offer a 220gr PT. Ah well, I imagine that Swift would be one awesome hammer. I don't even know if the big bears would slow one down. Scotty

I've had good success with both the 220 grain Swift AF and the 220 grain Sierra BT in my 325 WSM. Groups are in the 0.5 inch to 0.6 inch range and velocities are decent. However, I find that the 200 grain PT has served admirably on both moose and elk. The sole possible change I've seriously considered recently has been to go with a 200 grain AF charged with W760. Groups are around 0.4 inches and velocity near 2850. Again, I'm not certain it will do anything the 200 grain PT has done for me during the time I've owned this rifle.

I guess it just seems odd the 325 can't push the 200's much faster than the 300 can run the 200's? I would think with the extra bore size, it should be an easy 3K or so for launching them. Maybe I am way out in left field, but I just don't see the gain over the 300WSM, well, except for frontal area, which does count for me. Not that it stops me from liking it. Those 325's are some neat cartridges. Scotty

Here is the 220gr Sierra from my 8RM.

I have 5 boxes of 220gr Swift A-Frame's to test soon ;)

Boomer -
I love the results with any A-frame caliber bullet I have tried. You had to have paid a bloody fortune those in Canada.

Boomer,

Nice shooting.
A 220 gr PT would be a dandy!

JD338

I actually got them for $50 per box as the previous owner needed rid of them. That was the only load I have tried so far and used 87grs of RL25. I want to try some PT and also the AF.
