Hey guy's I just starting loading for my 9x19 (9mm luger) and I am wondering if I could get some of your loads for your guns. I have already loaded 250 rounds of 124 grain berry plated bullet HP with Ramshot Silhouette. I am also wondering if I could get a quickoad for the 9x19 using the 124 grain platted HP and ramshot Silhouette because when I loaded up my first batch the gun would jam and act like there was not enough force to open the slide up to chamber another round (Ruger P89). I appreciate it!

250  i hope that was'nt on a single stage press at one sitting  i use 6.8 grns of bluedot with a Hornady 124gr XTP/HP and win small pistol primers this is shot out of a SR-9 with the 4" barrel, groups are about an inch at 25yrds, i like the XTPS the few i have dug out of the back stop have all been picture perfect in the way they open up  ,, i dont know what speed the rounds are running at cause i dont have a chrony  the thing that i have noticed with the bluedot is that it is a bit dirty,, im sure theres better powders for the 9mm but i have a pound of the BD and its gonna last me awhile in those small cases

the 250 I loaded up was on a single stage press  but I spread the time out for a few days. What is your OAL? if you don't mind me asking. I am going to pick up some of the Hornady XTP/HP next time I am at Cabelas.

For the 124 XTP's try 1.085 for OL.
I used to use 4.8 grs of W231 with 124 FMJ @ 1.120 OL.
There are newer powders out now i would use.
Check Ramshots site for their loads.

While I was looking for a load that my wife could shoot, that wouldn't kick to much, and not use tons of powder I came up with this load for my glock 19:

115gr. Hornady HP/XTP
3.5gr IMR 700X
REM 1 1/2 small pistol primer

This load is great! Shoots small groups all day long and cycles flawlessly. Because of the low charge you can keep a good sight picture with rapid firing. I just Loaded 400 rounds of this on a single stage press a couple of months ago! Took me 4 days! Needless to say I just bought a RCBS Trim mate station. Hope this helps.

im running them at 1.060 ( by the speer book ) i have wanted to try some different lengths just have'nt done it yet ,, dont feel bad guys i load my 9's on a single stage press aswell ( RCBS ) ive also wanted to try some different powders but in my small town its hard to get and i dont want to pay the haz. fee to order  guess im just cheap,,,,,,,,

I have found this load to be really accurate in many 9mmL 6 grs Unique with 115 xtp, gold dot and Montana gold JHP bullets. The OAL is given in the Hornady manual for their 115 xtp. I am out of town right now and don't have my data. They really shoot accurate and function perfectly in my Glock 17 & 26. They run 1225 fps out of my G17. The Montana gold bullets are not good self defense JHP bullets. They are target jhp's. I tested a number of different jhp bullets in 2 gal jugs of water and with 5 stacked together the Montana Gold 115 would shed it's jacket in long slivers in the first jugs then the lead core went through all the jugs and kept on going just like a fmj. The xtp and Gold Dot would be found in the second jug with a text book mushroom. My SD ammo is this load with either xtp or Gold Dots.

If you are going to start shooting, start saving for a Dillon progressive. When I first started to shoot matches, I was loading for 3 of us on a single stage. All I was doing was working and reloading. Eventually, we all got Dillon 550's. Now have 2, one for large primers and one for small. It will save you lots of time.

what would be the best bullet for personal defense, the 115 grain hornady XTP, 124 grain Hornady XTP or the 147 grain Hornady HP-XTP-BT? I was thinking the 147 grain but the 115 will have a faster follow up shot and less recoil, even though the gun doesnt have much recoil as it is.

For personal defense pick the bullet that groups the best. When that moment comes you want to be confident in your gun. All the bullets listed will take down a bad guy. Most bad guys will give up after the first shot. In my experience people don't really like to be shot so fighting back is really not an issue. Hope this helps

The best is subjective. All the new bullets or ammo by the big companies are good. They have improved alot over the past several years. Most shootings happen under 7 yards. Find what you can handle and still get your hits.
If i carry my 9mm, it has 124 +p XTP's

How much extra powder can be added to get a +p or +p+ round? Or do I just have to buy store bought ammo? I just got some 124 grain Hornady XTP bullets to reload.

If you are going to load to carry, don't. You don't need your life or anothers in question if the gun go's click instead of bang. Also if you do shoot someone, they are going to eat you up in court.
Load to practice, carry factory.
I would not load to try to get +p to practice. The pressures build up quick and you don't need it. Pick something out of the book that gives you top vel while being safe.

i was gonna say the same thing,,,, but IMO i think its a bunch of horse crap ,,, a bullet is a bullet and a bad man is a bad man,, it shoudnt matter if i defend myself or others with store bought rounds or the rounds i make myself,, or a stick off the ground for that matter,,
if it was a proven fact that someone had to defend themselves for there lives then it shouldnt matter how that person did it,,, like i said tho this is my opinion,,,,,

I have been reading alot on this for quite a while and they will always bring up the fact that you made the bullet for total devastation. So I will just probably buy some Cor Bon bullets for this. (Due to that fact Corbon sounds like Corbin  ) But I will just stick with loading for practice and my hunting. But I really do enjoy loading for my pistol now and it is alot cheaper, and you get the satisfaction of a job well done when you get the groups you want.

Same here, or 5.5 gr Unique.

Thank you everyone for the load data. I will try out a few loads and let you know how they do.

In fact I did,
5.7 grains of Ramshot Silhouette
GFL/Winchester brass
CCI small pistol primer
124 Grain Hornady XTP
OAL 1.085

I tried 5.9 grains (max on the ramshot website) but it was too hot of a load and the primers had a nice peak on them. With the 5.7 grains it is perfect. I have not put a bullet through a crony yet, but they are very accurate. I shot 100 bullets with this powder through my gun without cleaning it just to see how dirty it was, and it looked like you had shot only one factory round through it. Very clean burning.
