My wife drew a spring bear tag! I'm way excited about it. Should take 5 or 6 points, she got it done with 1. I didn't have any luck, so I'll try to get her one and then look at Idaho with a few buddies.

I'm really thinking about having her shoot the 338R with some 225 AB. With the break it seems to kick less than the 280 AI that I have had her shooting the last few years. If not I'll just take my 280 AI load and have some CDS dials put on it. But, like any true RADD suffering sportsman, I'm trying to leverage this into a "new rifle for her" Thinking 7-08 or 260.

We will probably have multiple baits going this spring Jake so if you need a place to go we will probably have more bears then tags like last year.

Sounds like a great time. Congrats to the lucky lady! Ive always jumped at any excuse for a new rifle. My bride enjoys her 7-08 good luck on the hunt!

Hope you have fun. We have taken out new hunters after bears that have used the 260 Rem or 6.5x55, we used 140 gr Speer G.S bullets mostly but also the 140 gr Partition and 129 gr Hornady SP. We had no problems bringing home some bears, a good 130-140 gr bullet will get it done easily. The 6.5 Creedmore would be as good as the other two rounds mentioned.

That is great news, Jake. It has to be sweet to spend time in the woods with your lady. Congratulations and the best of luck to each of you.

Gerry, all good points. I have been thinking of breaking my stw for a while. She seemed interested in that. If so we'll go with the 160 AB. If not the 280AI shoots the 140AB very well. If she is wanting a new toy, I have a hard time getting past the 7-08 with a good 140gr bullet.

She is already asking me about getting out to practice. This is going to be a fun spring!

I'm really hoping Nosler will drop a 7mm ABLR in time to use this spring! Would be sweet to have my wife bust a bear with one!

That's cool your wife drew a bear tag she might like the fact she could draw first blood on your 338 375 Ruger if she goes that route.

Jake that 7mm-08 is really a underrated calibre.
My youngest son would really like to own that particular cartridge as they have never really taken off here in Saskatchewan.
I believe it definitely do the job!!

Blessings,
Dan

That's awesome Jake. Lori and I should be in Idaho about then as well, searching for bears as well. Lori is packing her 25-06 with 115 PT's for any glassing and will probably be using the 444 Marlin over bait. Can't wait. Need to get back to the mountains.

Seems like a good excuse to add a rifle, that is FOR SURE! A 7mm Mauser would be a cool one as well!
