Hey Nosler, how about a 300 grain PT-HG for us that shoot a 444 Marlin and the like? The 300 grain Sporting Hand gun bullet despite having no data in the manual for 444 velocities has been tried and it wont hold up on heavier game. A Gunscribe recently did an article on the 444 MArlin and how with the old guns having a slower twist, they wouldnt support certain newer 300 grain bullets namely the Hornady. Why doesnt nosler make a good 300 Grainer that can pushed out there at 2150-2200 fps for elk and bear I am sure it would sell.

I agree, 300 gr PT would be nice.
The 250 gr PT is a hard hitter in youe 444 out to 150 yds. If you are hunting the bigger critters, I would look at the lead hard cast bullets.
These will turn your 444 into a hammer and those bullets will awesome penetration.

My Best friends father wants to use his 444 to kill a bison this year and though i am sure the 250 PT-HG would do it, i want him to have a heavier bullet for in the case that they may charge. Thses buffalo are privately owned and they are not kep in any fences, they just tear em down, I personally think it is as close to wild bison as we are likely to ever see. Quite sporting as compared to most bison hunts, thanks for the input JD338.

I have actually done tests in yet pine boards with the various 300 gr bullets in the 444. This was 5 years ago prior to Partitioned Handgun bullets.

All were launched at 2100 fps or so and shot at5 feet away. The Hornady xtp mushroomed the best and penetrated the most boards, Sierrra was the worst. Not much of a scientific test but it's something.
