Looks like Hornady wants in on the 6.5 action. The new round will be called the 6.5 Creedmoor and fits somewhere between the 6.5X47 Lapua and .260Remington....

Could be useful in an AR-10 platform I guess. I like it for a 15" pistol barrel. Have actually thought about the 6.5X47 already for a pistol and shooting 120 - 130 grain bullets.

Man, Hornady is on a roll with all the new certridges!

The 6.5mm market is a good one for long range shooting.
I agree that Hornady is on a roll!

Anyone know what the point is of this new cartridge? DPMS already has the .260Rem on the AR platform... Is it for some sort of specialized competition?

I think it will see use in some three gun and other AR platform competitions. Also in spealized pistols?

Being shorter then the .260rem you will be able to seat the bullets out further without worring about the magazine.

Hows it compare to the 6.5 Grendel? Looks like a ballisticly similar cartridge to me.

Looks like it will hold more powder then the 6.5grendal since the 6.5X47 is just a bit bigger then the Grendal. Just a guess.

I saw that they are making and loading SST (plastic pointed ) bullets in 44 mag and others.
